Hello

My daughters 1998 Mustang convertable has a right side front seat belt retractor problem. This is the second time it retracted into the floor and is reluctant to pull out. Is this a defective retractor or is there a trick to getting it back out? It does not appear that the belt is twisted. Thanks!

I don't know if this helps, but Ford has a design problem with their seatbelts. My 99 is constantly twisting. My step-father has had 3 new mustangs in the last 5 years, and all of them have had to go back to the dealership to be untwisted and/or unlocked at least once a year.

Replacing the retractor might fix your problem, but I recommend you ditch the stock belt and go with a custom. You will be fighting that thing forever if you don't.
