I have a 68 fastback that I am planning on resto modding. I plan on putting in a modular 4.6,5.0, or 5.4. I am looking for 500 hp at the wheels and my main purpose for the car is to fart around with it on the weekends and road race it once a year. I am new to classic cars and do not completely understand the capabilities of their chassis. What kind of chassis set up will support my HP goals? I would like to keep the chassis upgrade around $10k.

I know the best route would be to get a completely fabricated chassis from Art Morrison or Schwartz, but I would like to know my other options (if I have any).

My $0.02

Outside of a full chassis like the Schwartz or Art Morrison, not much left but sub frame connectors. There's a multitude of them out there of every shape and size.

I have taken a liking to these SpinTech '65-'70 Mustang Sub Frame Connectors - MUSTANG SUBFRAME CONNECTORS - SpinTech '65-'70 Mustang Sub Frame Connectors - SpinTech Performance Mufflers

I don't think you'll ever get to take full advantage of 500 hp at the wheels unless you can get the tires to hook up. You're limited to how wide of a tire due to wheel well clearance issues. You can install mini tubs and pick up another 1-1/2" or so before you start cutting into the frame rail.

Just some things you need to think about. Its the ole "one thing leads to another"

Thanks for the input. I do plan on mini tubing. i would like to run at least 305 in the rear.

So if I went this route, my only option for front suspension is a Mustang Type II. But for the rear I would like to go 3-link. I just want the frame to hold up to the torque.
