Shelby GT500 Keeps Goodyear Tires for 2013 While Boss 302 Has Pricier Pirellis

The 2013 Mustang Shelby GT500 got a bunch of upgrades to keep it head-to-head with the track-carving Camaro ZL1. One upgrade it did not get however is the DOT approved Track and and Competition spec Pirellis from the Boss 302.

The less-expensive Boss rides on Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires that, sized for a Shelby, cost $2,308 on TireRack.com. That is more than twice the price of what the 2013 Shelby has, the same tires it has had for years, Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G2. Don't get us wrong, these Goodyears are very good performance tires but the Shelby GT500 is supposed to be the best car in its class.

So we ask Ford, you already use better, pricier, grippier, stickier tires on a less expensive, less powerful version of the Mustang. For 2013 you increased the horsepower of the Shelby massively just to beat the Camaro ZL1, tires are an easy swap, why is the 2013 Shelby not using these Pirellis?
