I have a 2011 GT base with a steeda tri-ax. I bought the white retro shift knob from AM that they just got on their site : Retro Style 6-Speed Shift Knob - White (11-12 Mustang) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

Well, the jam nut and boot retainer arent working for me.. the retainer slides down into the cup just fine. I know my buddy didnt use his jam nut on his 05 GT and just snugged the knob down on the retainer, because he didnt want the nut visible and liked the knob lower anyways..

heres my problem.. if I don't use the jam nut, the knob wont thread down far enough to make it snug, and the retainer and boot are not tight, looks dumb and the retainer rattles when you move the shifter around.

When I use the jam nut, it 1)looks awful because theres a nut under the knob.. and 2) I adjust the nut so that the shifter is tight and straight and it STILL isnt down far enough to snug up the retainer and boot.

OK what gives.. I considered throwing some washers under the retainer, but thats ghetto.

I am assuming you are not supposed to take the stock cup out, and it seems like its glued to the boot anyways.. anyone have any insight since theres no instructions ?
