Tdy I kind of raced with a 12 sonata turbo 275hp till 80mph. At 75 he was catching up. I was on 4th (4000 rpm) and had a speed limiter (80mph).
What do you guys think?
It wasnt a real race, speeding up thats it.

HELL NO. maybe the 4.6 genesis but not that thing. they may have horsepower but they dont go anywhere near as fast as a 5.0

I do know that im 100% wrong, but how did he catch up at 70?
His is completely stock.
On both ways its the driver's error

if some dumb a$$ wants to pass me at over 80mph on a public street I usually move over...Tampa/Clearwater has become one big speed trap...thanks goodness for the M45 so I can chill out and just roll

yeah, you just might be imagining things. I raced a 2t from a stop the other day, I honestly didn't know he had taken the bait because I slowed down at 60 back down to 45 and he passed me a few seconds later doing like 70mph and was ready for another go, lol.

I walk sonatas all day on the highway, where the limit here is 70mph and thats where 5.0's walk me, so thats like double walking a sonata.

I drive to Miami 2x a week and every sonata and maxima think they are race car drivers. I don't even have time for them anymore.

I can be doing 80 at 2100 RPM .......as previously stated give it some more pedal

We bought a 2012 Sonata turbo for my wife, and while the car is fast for a sedan, in no way is it 5.0 fast. You should have had to problem beating it.

If you were in 6th gear with a 3:31 rear gear, you don't have that much "punch". If his automatic equipped car downshifted, he could easily catch you. However, a downshift to 4th will send you to 100 in about 2 blinks of an eye.

There is absolutely no way that sonata should be remotely close to next to you unless you were flooring it in sixth gear.

you were in 4th and raced to 80mph. of course he will be quicker. with my 3.73 gears I take 4th to over 115mph. racing from 40-80 or wherever you started, I'm surprised it didn't beat you lol.

What RCE said... you have plenty of power in 4th gear, but you would have more power in 3rd gear, and would have still been able to run past his speed limiter of 80 MPH without ever shifting to 4th(was it his momma's car??)

You were at least one gear too low and at the low end of your power band. Don't be afraid of downshifting.

The other day, at 60MPH in the cold I downshifted to fourth and punched it, I spun the tires (Brembo hockey pucks <70*F) and had to 2-count til the traction control gave the OK.

I call driver error if he's coming anywhere close to catching you.

yeah - next try 3rd gear in 40-60 mph

took me a while and a few lost races to realize I had that much gearing left in the earlier gears, and i have 3.31s!

yea i felt bad after i destroyed this kid in a maxima. Not because i beat him so bad but because of the way i was drving through traffic. very very very dumb decision on my part. I just got hulk mad after the kid flicked a cigarette at me and called me a *****.
