how far over the full line is it??????
did u happen to start the car and get some of that oil through your oil filter?
cuz if u dont it will read over full
ya, thats what i thought so i drove it for 2 miles and checked it in the morning and is still reading a bit over full. about a half inch over filled.
no lol, only the one at the bottom. they both drain the same right?

nope you have to drain both of them.......

No, you have to drain both plugs. Thats why it is over filled. All of the oil can't come out of the bottom plug.
well it hasn't mixxed with the new oil yet. cause it is all so dam clean and im sure if it has mixxed it would be black again.

Why the hell is their 2? that is just stupid. my buddy never drained both drain plugs on his 5.0 the 4 years he had it. but his was automatic and i dont think his had 2 plugs...

Just an FYI, I drain both of mine and my oil stick always reads over full w/ 5 qt change. I just made a new mark on dipstick and read from there. I've heard this from others also. Doesn't sound like an isolated thing.
ya i read some of that also ^^^. but i did notice when i drained the oil only 4 quarts came out. and i read this other thread saying when he drained it only 1 quart came out. so maybe half holds 4 quarts and the other drain plug is for the last quart?

Well if so then why has the new oil not mixxed in with that 1 quart of old oil and the dip stick is still all brand new oil none even black?

im lost this is crazy lol.

well think about it, 5 quarts of clean oil, a new oil filter mixing with 1 quart or less of dirty oil you arent gonna see it on the stick, and yes i have drained both in the past and gotten over full readings its normal, but you have to drain bolt drain plugs, the reason it is like this is to go around the k member allowing for greater ground clearance for speed bumps and such because if it hung down it is susceptible to damage from road debris

ok, so you think that the oils have already mixxed? new and old? cause i was gonna take off the front drain plug and drain that old 1 quart out. but maybe now if i do it all the new oil will come out?
As Far as I know the crankcase capacity is 4.7L (5 quarts) including filter. There is roughly one in the front sump, and the remaining 4 are in the rear sump.
ya, ok. so i drained the rear sump but not the front sump and i put 5 quarts of oil in.

What should i do? drain one quart back out or just leave it alone?

To give you an idea on how full it is, on the dipstick where it says Full and then it has an arrow pointing down about a half inch and then thats where it should be. well my oil it on the FULL letterings.

Mine reads over full too after a change, think its pretty common. Funny Story as I got into an argument with the guy at the Ford Dealer in the Parts Department when I picked up a Filter and Drain Plug Gaskets, the guy only gave me 1 Gasket and was insisting that I was draining the Tranny and did not want to give me the 2nd Plug Gasket, LOL. When I left I seen him rush off to the Service Department, I wish I could have seen his face when the Tech told him there were 2 Drain Plugs!

I would drain some Oil out as it is not good to be Over Full.

i wouldnt open anything and waste the new good oil you put in, just if you wanna to go crazy run this oil until like 1500 miles and dump it this way its a good way to clean out your engine, and get that old oil out, but if it were me i would just leave it in there the full 3000 it wont hurt nothing you have new oil to dilute the old oil and a fresh filter to clean it. Also you change the oil when the motor is hot right? I usually take mine for a drive make sure everything is at operating temperature and then i drain it as soon as i get home, this way any dirt or anything is suspended in the oil, and the 5.0 is open enough underneath where you wont get burned if the engine is hot just be quick the oil will be hot

ya ^. ok, One more other question. my car came with a after market temperature gauge. well the highest i have ever seen it go while idling was 170 degrees. well today i actually put a load on it and was on it a lot and actually driving it and i seen it go to 220 and then back to a 210 and after just driving i think it stayed around 200 - 215. is that normal temps?

The Factory gauge does not work.
