Side Exhaust With Cutouts?

1987 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Drizziie
Has anyone ever made a sort of quad exhaust, buy using a side exhaust kit (Like Cervinis) combined with the dual rear exit exhaust?

After I install headers (Hopefully soon), I'm going to install new axle backs to keep the noise reasonable for daily driving (But not too quiet ;) and cutouts for when I want her real loud. I came up with the idea that you could using a side exhaust sideskirt and tips to rout the exhaust gases from the cutouts out the side of the car.

Just an idea of mine, lol

Ford and others make side pipes like they installed on the Boss 302. I have them. Sounds great with no cutouts.

The Cervinis kits are really expensive, unless you like that look.
No offense but isn't that AM kit like having 2 exhaust systems?

In a sense, but it's quad exhaust. Lots of surround sound and help the car breathe a little better.

Interesting. So what the OP was asking is if you could control and choose which system, or both, was being used?
Excuse my slowness but when he said "cut-out" I thought he was talking about having the exhaust exit through the rocker panel.
This is what he needs. He can install them anywhere along the exhaust and open/close them at will.

I didn't bother with the cutouts part, since the exhaust will probably not be that loud and it's just another part that can fail. However if the OP wants to use them, then QTP and a couple other companies make them. You can make a custom system that the cutouts will switch to full dumps, they used to do that on the 60's and 70's cars to bracket race on the weekends. The kits now typically shut off the side pipes but in either case the flow is still going through the rear mufflers.
So, the next question would be does anyone make a side exhaust kit that replaces rather than adding to the rear exhaust? Sidepipes like the "Vettes used to have, for example. I just don't see the point in redundant exhaust systems.
The boss exhaust from ford is pretty much what I had in mind. I would put a cutout in that and run more mild mufflers, and still be able to have it louder when I wanted it. If only it was a H and not X pipe lol
