Side Scoops won't stay on tight

Hey fellow Stangers!

Just a quick question with my problem. I got side scoops through American Muscle a little while ago, took them to a local reputable body shop for painting & installation (with the included 2-sided tape) & I've had to take it back to the shop 3 times now as the scoops keep coming off! They don't come off completely but don't stay on tight & might come off completely if I didn't keep bringing it back to the shop to have fixed. The shop has tried putting poly eurethane on the corners of the scoops along with the tape but it still won't stick tightly all the way around. Any ideas? The shop seems stumped & I am frustrated. I do NOT want the scoops bolted on. I'd hate to dump the scoops as I love the look but it seems more trouble than the worth at this point! Any ideas anyone?? Anyone else have this problem?? Thanks for reading! Love my Stang!

You could use 3M body panel adhesive, but it would be permanent.
Thats very strange. The 3m double stick tape may have been old or something. It sticks very well if the surface is clean. If you can clean up everything and start with new tape it should work. The tape is also supposed to be positioned so it will allow water run out and let air in. Good luck. Hope you get it figured out.

3M adhesive is permanent?? Well, I am 99% sure I want the scoops on permanently so I'll ask the shop about it. Thanks for the idea!

Well, the shop has tried their own 3M tape, then tried the supplied tape in addition to the poly eurethane! Maybe I should call AMerican Muscle & complain! Thanks for the ideas!

I would call AM and at least voice your concern... if they can they'll make it right if you somehow got a bum set of panels. Is the tape sticking to the scoops fine but just not staying stuck to the car? 3M tape is awesome and is permanent in the manner that it won't come off unless you are trying to take it off. Unfortunately that's not happening for you for some reason. I'm sure the shop is awesome but I just can't help but think that the area isn't getting cleaned somehow before the scoops are being mounted. Keep us posted!:bigthumbsup

^^snackmaster hit the nail on the head.

Is the tape sticking to the car or the louvers?

If it is sticking to the louvers and not the car, the prep for installing them on the car needs to be done again(clean with soap/water, then alcohol to remove any contaminates from clearcoat, then soap and water again and dried with a terry cloth towel or something that will not leave particles in the clearcoat)

If it is sticking to the car and not the louvers, then there may be some contaminates on the inside of the louvers.

If you want them on semi-permanently I would have the shop use this: 3M US: Automix Panel Bonding Adhesive

Let me know if it is not sticking to the louvers(PM me) and I can get you a replacement set sent out immediately.

Also, did you have your order number, just so that I may note that you are having an issue with them up to this point.

Get back to me and we'll get you taken care of!

Thanks AMSTanger! I'll look at the scoops closer tomorrow, my initial thoughts are that it's sticking to the car but coming off the scoops but I'll doublecheck to be sure. I'll also talk to the shop about using that adhesive you mentioned. I'll let you know how I make out & thanks again!

Thanks Snackmaster! I'll check out the scoops some more & see where it's not sticking...the car or the scoop itself. I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks!
