Slow throttle response?

I went for a test drive the other day and liked it alot. My only question is that one time I kind of floored it......... and it took a couple of seconds for it to kick in. Is this normal for automatics?

I guess thats what people are saying, I ordered an 11 GT Auto, and I feel the same way! Hopefully a tune will clear that up!!
I had the exact same experience during a test drive.
Ours has the same issue. To stop it I turned off the Nanny control. Just releasing the traction control had no effect, I had to turn it all off. This seemed to clear it right up.

Going to give it a few miles and if it continues I will take it back to the dealer to check the tune. I had the same issue in my 08 F150. The shift schedule hates the lift and 35's. Added an Edge Tuner, set to stage 3, problem solved. Nice solid shifting and throttle response is great.

The autos defintely are less than thrilling in their response...and the lack of speedshift is dissapointing as well.
The GT is also built to run better on highter ocatne gasoline. The day I test drove a V6 and a GT, they were really similar (and I watched the salesperson put cheapest gas in both since both were almost empty when we left the lot).

Once I picked mine up and burned out the dealers tank of gas, filled up with Shell 91 Octane, the difference was significant. Still a pause and like someone above me said, a tune will clear that (at least it did on my 06 auto).

The manual for the GT even references higher octane gasoline providing better performance.

I test drove a Terminator and a 2011 5.0 during the same and I can tell you the throttle response in the 5.0 was much slower. Both cars were 6 speed manuals yet the difference was tremendous. I'd like to see a dyno sheet of the 5.0s, seems like they start to make their real power at higher rpms..

Just my thoughts from driving both..

Accelerator response seems to have been an issue for quite a long time now. These folks make a product to fix the issue but they don't have anything for the 2011 quite yet. Might be something to watch.
Turn off the Traction control completely. Lightly hold the brakes, run up the RPM to 2500+ and stomp it. It'll GO>>>>best regards Plum.
If you engage the button twice while brakes applied you will engage the Sports mode (on Premiums only?). I don’t know if this have any influence on the auto shifting pattern or throttle response?

The response on my 11 GT aut. is just fine -perhaps coming from an 07 GT aut. is clouding my judgment.

A small syntax correction but rather the reverse is true. It doesnt take advantage of premium to give better performance than the advertised 412 hp 390lb tq but rather it just reduces power with regular gas to 402hp and 377lb tq.

Also...i think everyone here just made the case why i would not be getting an automatic.

I do believe the GT shines more on the higher RPMs than on the lower but i also think proper 3.73 gears and a tune would help even an auto.

The termis have a supercharger which undoubtably means max torque comes on within the first 2500 rpms which makes a HUGE difference in initial response and roasting of tires.

I should know, my AMG has over 500 torque at 2K rpm. :D

Right and the 5.0 makes its max torque at 4250 rpms:

What are the downsides of turning off traction control? Is that something you only need when it snows or rains usually?

Is stability control the same thing?

are there any other "nanny controls" ?

I was reading that a Tuner helps. Is that a tune up........... or some actual device?

sorry I am new to cars.

FWIW, had same issue with my 06 GT auto. Once a CAI with throttle body spacer went it, along with a 91 Octane tune, there was ZERO pause at take off or between shift points.

I haven't really ran my car hard enough yet to decide which way I want to go (only 500 miles so far and don't believe in beating it to death off the assembly line - and subsequently (or by pure luck) I have none of the odd noises alluded to my other 5.0 owners).

I test drove a manual 2011 V6 with 3.31, and felt that there was a severe slow throttle response.

I don't know what was going on. For the past 7 years, I've been driving a manual chipped GTI, and the GTI felt faster. Only once I got into the higher rpm's did the new mustang seem like it was getting anywhere.

Anyone else having these experiences. From the videos I've seen on youtube and the numbers I've read, the car hauls butt. When I got behind the wheel, it felt slow. Is that normal? I am a big fan of the new V6 mustang, and need some validation from owner experiences. Is this slow throttle response the norm? Can the dealer fix this? I don't want to flash the ECU and void the warranty on a new mustang.

The 3.31 gears are part of the problem but the Advancetrac programming has a "torque management" feature which contributes to sluggish throttle response. It's better with the B.S. Advancetrac turned off or you can resort to an aftermarket tune to fix things. It's a ridiculous situation but that's the way it is.

I thought the 3.31 gears were part of the solution!?!? Isn't that why new owners of the V6 opted for 3.31 instead of 2.73. Better acceleration off the line? What is the truth?

I've been wondering the same thing...
If the v6s have a rear end ratio of 2.73:1 you're correct that 3.31s would be better but turning off the Advancetrac will help also.
