I have a 2013 Gt Convertable Premium 6-speed and dealer has had my car for 2 weeks. Bad smell (like cats are bad) over 3k rpm. 100% stock with no aftermarket stuff. Have over 3000 miles from vacation (south Louisiana to Pegion Forge, tn) and smelled before trip and still smells (all the new internal exhaust coatings should be burnt off by now). Way worse since Convertable and cant even ride with top down!!! Dealer has had car for 2 weeks and nothing.... ford said may be high injector pressure which is bs and makes no sence. I mean its not a "rich" smell and no black in exhaust tips. Becides i would think the pcm would adjust for richness. I mean they even sell higher pressure injectors for performance! Any way... i contacted Ford and they are suposed to call me tomorrow. Last time i went to check on it they had it hooked up to an automatic to compair pcm and asking if i had a tune one it and saying i need to use a lower octane than premium fuel. On a side note... also had some debris in a spot on the door paint and paint shops said they wont touch it since candy red metallic and will never exactally match. I use to run an autoparts store and restored my 67 almost entirely by myself before i became a chemist and i get treated like a dumb a$$ when i try to get an explination of the issue. Can anyone please help.

Paint match is complete bs. I had scoops painted at the dealer same color you have. The guys at the dealer I use have 25 plus years paint experience and know what the are doing. Sounds like you better find another dealer as there are some that only want to sell cars and take no pride in complete service. A great dealer can be found but are out numbered by the crap ones.

Lower Octane Fuel, They Say!!!......You Have Got To Be Kidding!!....I Don't Care What Anyone Says, These high Strung 11.0 to 1 comp. 5.0's Need The Highest Octane Quality Fuel Possible PERIOD!!!........As Long As You Are Using A High Quality Fuel ie Shell, Sunoco, BP, And at Least 91 Octane, Your Dealer Had Better Look For The Real Cause.............Sean

Done. and after getting it escalated i should be receiving a call from Ford tomorrow. I am getting worried. I mean we traded in her topof the line ltz 4wd tahoe and never had an issue with it and this car is giving us all kinds of crap. I hope we can get thus straight cause i like the car and wanted to add the "Ford power upgrade with the gt500 mufflers air filter and procal tunner" but now i am scared that Ford will try and blame any future issues on the addons.

Ford seems to be doing this alot lately. My dad brought his '13 escape in for a burning smell and they said it was the cats breaking in :laugh: yeah ok.

The burning smell in some of the higher RPM ranges is normal. Many people including myself experienced it. This went away after around 5K if I remember right. Basically sometime around my first oil change. Yes, it can get pretty rank. I have a coupe so I couldn't possibly imagine how bad it would be with a vert. BLECK! Catalytic converter "break in?" Well...no I doubt it. As far as I'm aware, that's kind of a pseudo term. Give it some time and see what happens.

As far as using 87 vs 91-93, it doesn't matter for these cars. The 5.0 is smart enough from the factory to know if you're running 87. It'll back off the timing and adjust the cams accordingly. You do lose a bit of oomph but that's to be expected, NOT because you're using 87 but because of how the engine needs to adjust to accommodate the 87.

Spoke to ford today and they said there is currently nothing they can do and i need to go pick up the car from the dealership. Well Thats sucks...... i will bring it back at 5000 miles and see what bs they have for me then too! I wonder what all needs to happen to be covered under the lemon law?

The dealer said it has 90% sulfer comming out of tailpipe so its bad gas.....

i will try a differient dealer at 5000 miles... i am dissapointed in ford though especially for a $45k brand new car with such great engineering.

I have about 3300 miles on my 2013 auto and I am experiencing the same thing. Sells like rotten eggs if you let her stretch her legs any. I romped it a little yesterday coming down my street. It shifted from first to second at about 6300 in sport shift mode. Then I got to about 4500 in second and let out to make my driveway turn. When I pulled in and came to a stop, it smelt like everyone in the neighborhood had played the butt trumpet in my yard. It was horrible. I only use shell 93 in her so it ain't cheap gas. I guess I will give it until 5000 miles too and then start complaining.

As per my Technical Specialist, the exhaust does get hotter under hard acceleration and this odor could be normal. Quality of fuel may also have an effect on the type of odor.

However, if you do not feel comfortable with it, please bring your vehicle in to your Ford dealer for diagnosis and PM me with your VIN, full name, mileage, dealer, and best daytime number so I can escalate this to the customer service manager for your area.

my car smelled kinda funky after short wot runs after i first got it. kinda smelled like dirty socks is the best i can describe. i have not noticed it lately now that i think about it. i figured it was the new burning off. a bad cat or an overloaded catalytic converter will smell like a rotten egg sulfur smell.

Don't waste your time with ford. Supposedly the smell would have eventually burnt off but it never did and wife wanted roush exhaust anyway so just bonus it fixed it.
