Most use a piece of metal to cover up the hole, using the bolt hole for that. Some put in freeze plugs if they have no intention of using it again.

freeze plugs? what are those??
G
would i need to use any kind of sealant on those freeze plugs? like a silicone or something??
I recently did this in my 88, and the bolts were 5/8 11 thread. The shortest i could find were an inch or inch and a quarter, they stick out a little, but no big deal. I used some blue threadlocker on the bolts. I've heard of guys just taking the pump off, and leaving the thermactor pipe wraping around the back of your block.. remove the entire system, and you will be happy you did!
Some say a couple hp.. But I did it to clean up the engine bay

alright cool, so you basically screwed a bolt into the head? sounds better than a freeze plug too me.. :bigthumbsup
that's right, the worst part of the project was the lack of space near the firewall. Finding the correct size bolt, and getting the carbon buildup cleared out enough to thread the bolts is a project for a guy with large hands, and no room to work. Glad i did it though!

well thanks to you it will be a little bit easier now that i know the bolt size..
