"Smoked" Raxiom Illegal in texas?

I just got stopped and got a ticket for $155 if I dont remove my headlights, he said these were illegal but they aren't even really smoked, it more of the inside being black that gives them that look... so my question is, are they legal in texas? can I get rid of the ticket without getting rid of my headlights?

they are illegal.. i have them too though, makes getting my car inspected alot harder. Maybe you can show them this (CG® - Ford Mustang 2010-2012 Black CCFL Halo Projector Headlights with LEDs) they arent the same exact ones but they are DOT compliant. i always drive with my running lights on so it doesnt seem tinted.
That sucks man. Be glad he didn't ticket you for tint too. 25% is the legal limit for the front.

oh wow, those headlights look great. I wonder if the lighting sucks as bad as ours thought hahah
From what I see all the Raxiom's on American Muscle for 10-14 are "DOT Approved"
Not sure how you can be ticketed if they produce the required illumination when on (including blinkers), and also maintain any reflective component requirements.

You guys are lucky, in Pa, its no tint on the front windows & no smoked/tinted lights. Also, no clear lights with clear bulbs. No red lights in the front of the vehicle, & no blue lights showing unless you are a volunteer fire fighter. There`s a lot more, such as height of bumpers to the ground (slammed vehicles are illegal).
If the lights don't have a FMVSS certification number then they are not legal.

Well I would be talking to Raxiom then...
Funny thing is I bet the police would have no problem with LED license plate lights which make reading the plate easier from further away for them but "could" be ticketed as white light to rear due to being too bright...

I believe it is universal that blue lights are forbidden, also red lights on the front, unless the vehicle is licensed for emergency and law enforcement use.
After doing a Google search trying to find Raxiom (which has no web site) and then finding many other people running into these same issues I am just going to leave a note for myself...

Note to self: Do not alter stock lighting in any way; simply avoid the insanity caused by ambiguous leagleze multiplicative by any and all federal, state, county, city, and local municipalities laws and regulations.
I considered getting those lights, do they really decrease your visibility at night? Both seeing the road and others seeing you?

People can see u just fine. Especially at night since u will have ur lights on.
It looks like AM is the maker of those lights. I found this:

Turn 5 is either the parent company of, or another company that AM owns. They are/were both in the same industrial park & right next to each other.
Do the police really have nothing better to do in Texas?
Or did you do so something to piss them off?
Or maybe they were bored and it was a slow day.
We just had a similar discussion in our FL 3.7 club. below is the Fl law for reference
Title XXIII
MOTOR VEHICLES
Chapter 316
STATE UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL
View Entire Chapter
316.220 Headlamps on motor vehicles.—
(1) Every motor vehicle shall be equipped with at least two headlamps with at least one on each side of the front of the motor vehicle, which headlamps shall comply with the requirements and limitations set forth in this chapter, and shall show a white light. An object, material, or covering that alters the headlamp’s light color may not be placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied over a headlamp.
(2) Every headlamp upon every motor vehicle shall be located at a height of not more than 54 inches nor less than 24 inches to be measured as set forth in s. 316.217.
(3) A violation of this section is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a nonmoving violation as provided in chapter 318.
History.—s. 1, ch. 71-135; s. 172, ch. 99-248; s. 9, ch. 2000-313.
Turn 5 is AM's parent company. Raxiom lights are private labeled from another company.

Smoked anything is illegal. A replacement headlamp should not be. Provided the face is clear.
