sn95 motor or new edge?

So not too far in the future I want to overhaul my SN95 V6. I was wondering if when I want to redo the engine should I build up the sn95 V6 or just find a new edge's v6 to build. Are the internals stronger on the new edge v6?

You could swap it, but you need to remember engine balance and it would need to be tuned properly......
Drop a V8 in it.
new edge=40 more horsepower over the sn95 motor:bigthumbsup

The internals are not stronger. The head and intake design flowed more air and thus the increase in HP. If you do a split port swap, which is taking the head and intakes from a 99+ and put them on your motor you will gain hp. Like said above you will need to get tuned as well.
Another option when you decided to build is port and polish your heads, add a cam, and you will notice the power.
How much you looking to spend on a motor build? I know some guys that could help you out!

Boo that!
id say build the motor you got now :bigthumbsup

p/p the heads and upper and lower intake manifold and add a cam and you will luv it. Also add gears/tlok to that too :yup:

That was Jesse just being a wise a$$. We know him all too well.......
I am tainted by the V8.....
OK just got my internet back after weeks :/ Anyway. No V8 swaps. I want the surprised looks on people faces when I say it's only a 6. Right now it has the stock 7.5 rear with 2.73 gears and I welded the spider gears together for posi :shigrin

The 99+ split port swap sounds like something I would be interested in. Obviously I would get better internals and bigger cam while I'm there. I don't know all the specifics yet. I think I'll be looking to put somewhere between $6000 and $8000 into the motor. I keep going back and forth on whether to Turbo it or not. Maybe just a mild turbo?
Oh and BTW, where do you guys learn so much detail on the motors? Do you just take them apart and figure it all out? lol. I'm in a college mechanics class right now, but we just started so we are "learning" how to do things like change oil, and tranny fluids.....stuff I already know lol. About another 2 months before i have enough credits to get into serious stuff
Its takes time and experience to learn whats what.....

Anyways, 6-8K is a good chuck of change to throw at just the motor, with some carefull selection you could make a real dangerous machine.

Oh, just curious, have you driven a V8 stang before? Your mind could be easily changed, lol.... the ease of increasing power and all the parts available for them is rediculous.

I have driven a Foxbody and a Z28 camaro, but not a 4.6L. I do plan to build a 331 stroker SN95 one day when I have more money. Or maybe a 351....but I'll figure that out later lol. :yelpleased:
What should I do for Driveline? The 99+ v6's have a different geared tranny because of the 3.23 rear end correct? I want gears that give decent acceleration, but I don't want to lose all my top end. 2.73's are too high in my opinion. Maybe I should get an 8.8 rear axle and do 3.55's?
Manual trans V6's have the same exact trans as the 94/95 GT's (except for electronic speedo), and they have the same gearset as most of the foxbody 5.0's.

Depends on what route you go with the engine, 4.10's would be good on a N/A set-up, they may be too much for boost. But 3.73's are a good all around gear.

I wouldn't worry about top-end, where are you going to be driving 140+ mph?

The freeway :winks lol
if u wanna drop big money on a new motor take it up to Shine shop and let them build u up a motor just an idea

Or see if they'll build ya a motor and ship it....
If I'm going to build the motor I want to do it myself. That way I can say its fast because of me. If I wanted to just buy a motor I would probably just get one from super six motorsports.

I like your attitude. Just remember, if you have never built a performance motor, you will be doing it again shortly afterwards. That way, you can say you've built 2 performance motors.....

I had a customer purchase a rotating assembly just last week. He never had his block checked at the machine shop to see where the cylinder walls cleaned up at. He just called me and ordered +.020 pistons. Jr and I tried to talk him into getting it checked first, but he just told me to order them. We asked who was going to build it, and he said one of his buddies built a pretty fast Honda, so he was going to do it. We told him that building a performance motor and building a grocery-getter are 2 different things. No manual is going to help you at this point. All tolerances are different with a performance motor. An engine assembler, and an engine builder are not the same people. So, we sent off the rotating assembly. We know what is going to happen, and we pleaded with him to get it built the right way, but he is relying on his buddy. We will be waiting for his phone call asking for a built bottom end if he has any money left.....

Uh, no. really, I can see you maybe getting a top end boost for track racing, but even then, I seriously doubt that you're gonna hit 140. if there's a track around you that you CAN get up to 140 on, then by all means, do it. However, if the only reason you want top end is to go to jail or worse, just gear your car for acceleration.
