Could the Ford factory nos. be switched? -- why would lighter coupe have stiffer springs?

I am beginning my research on lowering my 2001 GT convertible/automatic w/goal of MAINTAINING RIDE QUALITY FIRST - suggestions and personal experience w/various setups welcomed; car has 38K & is 100% stock at this time. Budget not issue; anyone have experience w/Tokico Illuminas or KYB? My 96 has Bilstein Sports & Kenny Brown convertible-specifc springs and is too stiff for my tastes. TIA
