I have a 98 V6 and every time that i turn the wheel either way or hit a bump there is a loud squeaking noise.

I know its not the power steering cause I have checked it. and I pushed down on the right fender above the tire and the squeak happens, but nothing happens when you do it on the left side.

My brother in law mentioned that it could be the strut going bad? Could this be it?

I had a similar problem when i used to own a 95 Grand Prix GTP but it was in the rear section.

Any help would be appreciated before I pay out the $$$ for the fixing of it.

ya it really sounds like a a strut is shot but just to rule out any other things jack the car up by the lower control arm and check for any play in the wheel (side to side for tie rod ends very common, up and down for wheel bearings, ball joints) just putting that since it would need aligned after the struts are replaced and for no extra suprises

I had the same thing for a long time and I thought it was 'tie-rod' ends and shot grease in them (needle gun through rubber boots) and only got a slight relief. It sounds like the old sqeaking rigging of a wooden sailing vessel, right? I remained puzzled until the ultimate diagnoses took place,..........the right lower ball joint busted completely off the lower control arm. I was lucky,....it happened on the way to church at 30 mph, not at 80 mph 150 miles away from home, just two days earlier. Get a good mechanic on your front end if you don't know how.:yup:
