SRT4 vs 05 GT humor
Cruising around with the GF yesterday and I spot the big ol' wing of an SRT-4. I had a perfect opportunity in an industrial area with no pedestrians or cross traffic. I actually like these glorified Neons...but you know how notorious they are for the build quality of the non-essential components. Anyway I pull up next to him, confirm it's an SRT and ask him if he wants to go. He's a nice kid, no attitude and he's game. Naturally I smoked him with room to spare...he didn't have much time to spool up from the dig. After the honk and the thumbs-up, he follows me a few blocks and comes up alongside me with an object in his hand. Laughing he shows me the shift knob that just came off in his hand.

Good thing his shifter knob came off while he was in 1st gear or he would have waxed you. Stock they are putting down 230 whp and your at 265whp and he has 900lbs on you easy. I have watched this battle week after week at the drags and the SRT-4 kills every '05 GT. I have a high 11 second Fox and they stay with me usually till the 800' mark and we do it having fun no hard feelings but they are quick. All I care is that at least it is American and not a Import. This always starts something but what I have seen is what I have seen. Shoot I get waxed by STI's all the time till 800' but Horspower wins if everything else is equal after your rolling.

Didn't I hear something about them under-rating the horsepower to the public so that when someone does find out how much it has, they are surprised or something? I almost bought one and I remember going through the srt forums trying to find every little querk about them. From what I hear, they are quick, but they do have their share of build problems... BTW, if they weren't built on Neon platforms I woulda considered buying one, but I just couldn't get by those body styles. I probably woulda bought the stang anyway. I got mustang in my blood. Plus those things have no throat. They sound like a nerd running down the street. *Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh*
Yes, they're advertised HP is 230 but make about 220-230whp (so, about 260HP), and as far as the sound, I personally think they are one of the coolest sounding cars out there, how it pops and gurgles when decelerating. Yessss! Anyway, they run 13.8-14.2's stock depending on the driver and conditions, sometimes even slower. Not bad for $21000. But a Mustang is a mustang. Since I'm poor right now, my $4000 worth of '94 Mustang is really fun, and has potential to run 13's with some more engine work and traction (14.8's right now.) Chris
They are factory rated at 215hp at the crank. Somehow I think 260 actual crank hp is a bit optimistic. But yes, they are cool cars. I almost bought one too, but A.) 4-door B.) fwd C.) Neon D.) ricer looks and so forth. It does grant a really nice bang for the buck for sure.

They are suppose to be underated. I like mine. It's a fun car. But it's still nothing like the mustang. But that's ok. I will have one in the future. I have beat a few 99+ GT's and 96-98 are no problem. I want to go to the track to see what it will do.

Speedytang does not own a SRT4.
The shifter comment was a LOL. As I said I own a 11second daily driven Mustang that puts out over 485 rwhp and don't need or will own a SRT4 because it is a Neon 4dr and already have a couple of family vehicles. Anyone that questions the performance of a SRT4 needs to drive one and wipe the silly smile off your face before you go to meet your buddies with the Mustangs. I don't understand why the harsh thoughts because it is not a Ford, at least it is manufactured by a American company giving us Americans jobs. Remember Ford built the Edsel and the Mustang II so they are not perfect. LOL

The SRT4 is quick, but it is NOT A MUSTANG, and is certainly not faster than an 05GT. If you think different, you are full of it. I mean you are misled, My stock 05gt whips my bud's stock SRT4, not even funny.

The only problem I have come accross with SRT-4 owners on the forums is that they think mustangs are total crap. It pisses me off how un informed they are and how much **** they talk.

I agree. I am a member of redlineforums.com and there are lots of srt-4 trolls that come there bashing everything including the redline and stangs. There are a few redline members that think they are god too but that comes with all cars. I just see srt-4 owners being the biggest display of thinking they cannot be beat by anything. There are a few tho that are cool..including Matt.
That was my first stang, you must have done alot to it because I thought it was a boat anchor. Wanna know why SRT-4 owners think their car is da shi*? Cuz the car is 21k and what age group does that target? That's right...young kids. I have nothing against them, but a large majority of them are immature and in dire need of proving something. I'd say the average age in there is probably like 17 or 18. I find AFM members be way more civilized and mature. So it actually fun to talk about our cars.

Hrrrm 230hp...Ford site still specs 215, but I'll take your word for it. Yeah, the age thing is unfortunate, and it's target market is pulling buyers from the ranks of import fans, so...well, there ya go. But for the record, I have nothing against Dodge (well, until the crapped on the Charger legacy), I think old-school Mopar is awesome. The fact they were able to put out this kind of performance for 20 grand is nice...too bad so many punks buy them.
As for the Mustang vs SRT-4 issue, I can only speak for the 05 Mustang. From what I've heard and experienced, the SRT can just about hang, possibly even beat a GT from a roll. From a dig, no. That turbo needs a bit of spool. But for 20K that's crazy.
