Hey guys I'm just finishing up my header install. As expected it was a huge PIA and I broke off a manifold bolt AND the dipstick tube trying to get it out. We have a replacement dipstick tube on order, but would it be okay to start it up with a cork in the hole for like a minute or less until it gets here?

Thanks
Zac

I guess as long as you plug it, it should be OK. Why not just wait til the dipstick tube comes in?

BTW I had to pull mine out with vise grips when I did my header install so I had to order a new one too. That thing was stuck in there good.

Keep in mind you'll need something to space the dipstick tube mount away from the engine a bit when you do get it so the tube won't be against the headers or flange. I used a 3/8" nut behind the bracket, the original bolt is long enough that you don't need a new one.

If you weren't sure if the oil level was correct, you could drain it, measure it and dump it back in or put the proper amount of new oil in. I assume you are worried about having enough oil and not what might happen with no dipstick in the tube - ie blowing oil out the open dipstick hole. If that is the case - I'm sure some sort of plug would work fine.

Thanks for the responses. I knew i had proper oil level. Yesterday I started it up open headers for just a few seconds. Oil didn't spray everywhere like I thought I could have.

I picked up the new dipstick tube today and should have everything back together tonight!
