Starter hits on MAC Longtube header - 2002 Mustang GT

I'm in the process of installing my longtube headers (MAC brand). So far, so good. Just a few things that don't really go like they're supposed to. But that's life. Anyways, I got my passenger header on today, but the starter hits one of the tubes on the header. Do I put a dent in the header tube to let it clear? I have never heard of this happening before on anyone else's longtube header installs. Advice?

are your motor mounts sagging at all? because i ran into my headers not fitting properly on my 5.0 because of that reason
mount is possible, when you say hiting what do you mean? cause you said its installed. if it is just sitting on it thats fine cuz the exhaust doesnt move
popshot, no my motor mounts are off right now. It was part of the install process and I haven't got around to putting everything back on.

gostrider, I have the passenger header installed. It's bolted up nice and snug. But I took the starter off so I could get to the bolts easier, and now the starter won't line up correctly because it hits the header tube. It seems like it would still have a problem even if I put the starter on before the header. One of them would hit the other no matter what.

ok i feel ya, puttin a dent in it just sucks man i hope someone post on this gool luck man. i have headmen's and for 300$ the install was quit easy
Rule #1 with longtubes: Put the starter on 1st. It simply doesn't fit the opposite way usually.

I recently helped install a set of Steeda longtubes, and one tube slightly touched the starter, but did not have to be dimpled at all. It simply touched the starter. No big deal, since they both have to move together, because they are solidly bolted to the engine. So they won't rub or make noise or anything, they just touch. I've always had the starter on first, but I think that if you put the starter on 1st, you'll see with the MACs, you'll run into pretty much the same situation. I've never had a problem with MAC headers not fitting.

Dang okay I guess that's what I'll do tomorrow. Remove the header, put the starter on, and then try to get the header back on. It really shocked me when my cousin showed me how it wouldn't go on. I bought them from a guy that had them on his car and they worked. Maybe I should give him a call and ask what he did. Thanks guys I'll let you know how it all goes when I'm done.

pypes

My crappy Pypes hit the starter, steering shaft, floorboard, tranny mount, exxxxxxxxxxx. Junk.

When I put my 4V in Im going with Kooks, may be pricey but its worth it.

+1 on that one. i installed a set of kooks longtubes on my friends 05 GTO and they are beautiful. he got them jet coated for some sort of a bargain, with highflow cats as well. they are awesome headers.
Yeah it would have been nice to get the higher brand. But I got a good deal on these from a guy on Craigslist and they are still in great condition. The MAC headers and a Bassani catted x-pipe for 300 bucks. The price is the only reason I decided to tackle this job. I wouldn't have done it if I had to spend full price for everything.

yeah dude i don't blame you though. kooks longtubes with their catted x pipe will cost you well over a grand. not worth it IMHO.
Well I loosened the passenger header and got the starter in there. So tonight and tomorrow we will get everything back together and fire it up...hopefully.
