Anyone have any experience with this?

I'm really tempted to pick up the Steeda Tri-Ax:

I have the Tri-Ax and LUV IT!

I have not driven a S197 with the Hurst so I cannot compair... I played with one in the shop and it feels snug, maybe more precise than the Steeda but also quite a bit rougher, maybe not ideal for drivers, maybe better for racers...??

Had a Hurst in my -89 and liked that allot, again, can't compair though...
KJ - just installed the tri-ax.

Tell me if this is normal:

It is VERY notchy and rough going into the gears, and 5th gear and reverse take an immense amount of muscle to shift over to and get out of, it is VERY tight to even get to the right of 3rd/4th gear. Also, it rattles quite a bit at certain RPM ranges.

Advice?

The stiffness to the right is normal. There is a fix inkluded with the kit for the stiffness towards 5th and R. Just a bushing / adjustment, I think it's mentioned in the install instructions? It is on purpose stiff to the far right as you don't wanna hit them by misstake and won't use them in racing (often)... Le'me know if you find the fix I'm talking about, or I'll try to be more precise...

The notchiness I don't know about... is it uncomfortable or just a click click you're not used to? Mine just fall in with some more pressure than stock but much shorter, quicker and more precise... they're all right there!

The rattle was there all the time... you just hear it better now. Many on here have added padding, insulation, to the booth to keep the sounds down...
I have the hurst shifter. Was a little tight at first, but has gotten better. Next is some GM Synchromesh trans fluid pt# 12345349 about 3 qts. A marked improvement over whats in the trans now. Some like the Royal Purple stuff.
iv'e got the hurst and it shift great ........easy install and big difference for the cash.....
I'am also thinking of getting the Hurst but is the notchiness reaaly loud. and once the it is broken in does it take less effort to shift.
it shifts like a race car .....and it is quite....my 03 cobra with triax made a ton of noise......and it was way notchy.....i am sold on the hurst......it seems to be sooooo easy to hammer on without missing any vital gears......i have several friends that have run it as well.......
