I'm trying to confirm the proper location for disconnecting the steering shaft in order to remove my steering rack. Service manual is confusing. Car is a 1993 LX 5.0

For steering column removal it says "remove the two nuts that attach the flexible coupling to the flange of the steering input shaft".

For steering rack removal it says "remove the one bolt retaining the flexible coupling to the input shaft".

I did mine last winter in my driveway it was kinda a pain. I loosened the bolt that tightens that squeeze coupling, they're two nuts that actually hold on the rack assembly if that's what your talking about I also needed a crowbar to prie the rack off the two studs

Yea - I think they call that a rag joint but I don't where the service manual came up with that "one nut" statement. Doesn't look there's anyway you can undo that rag joint by only turning one nut.

Up closer to the firewall there's a joint that consists of only one nut but I don't know if undoing it there is what the manual is talking about and whether or not undoing it there will give me the desired results.

All I'm doing is changing bushings so I only need to move the rack versus take it completely out.
