well i got my first mustang vs. mustang race tonight ha and the end result kindof stumps me i raced a friend from work 96 gt 5speed 75mm throttle body aftermarket h-pipe msd coils and wires pro5.0 short throw shifter. around 60,000 miles. vs. my 88gt 5 speed all stock. first time i jumped and smoked him. second time pulled him in 2nd, and 3rd time pulled 4 cars after i hit third and just keep pulling away. all i can say is third gear is one bad mother. i just dont understand why i stomped him so bad my car is all stock and has 136,000 miles lol. any coments are appreciated. 5.0 vs 4.6 ha ha always bet on the 5.0 :bigthumbsup

The 5.0L is the superior engine in my opinion-it ran for nearly 30 years in that displacement alone, 35 if you count the smaller 289 and 260. I'm not real big on the 4.6L, not that it can't make lots of power though. The only real add ons he has that would make any noticeable power is the throttle body and coils-maybe. The h-pipe by itself would be negligible and the shifter does nothing for power. His throttle body may be bogging down his engine a tad if that's the only fuel add on as well.

Driver error can play a big role in your wins. Nice Kill:bigthumbsup Btw, I wouldn't count out the 4.6's:shigrin
I'd never count out the 4.6-it is the future. I agree it's true driver skill will make a big difference. Maybe he can't shift fast enough.
That would be cool if they brought back the 5.0's in the future though. I always loved the exhaust sound from them:bigthumbsup
nothin against 4.6's just love the 5.0s it also has a bbk in fender cai

I know, I was just kidding;) Now you need to slap a full exhaust on her and let her breathe:bigthumbsup The 5.0's exhaust are very restrictive from stock.

New 5.0L V8 Engine Slated for 2010 Mustang. - AllFordMustangs.com

You can never go home again.
Nice, I heard talks about it but I didn't know if it was actually going to happen.
Car and Driver say the 2010 Mustang has a 6.2L 400hp... just what i read in the Magizine
It's highly unlikely that the race was lost because of driver error. It is possible though that the added passenger weight or the fact that the defroster was on could have had something to do with it. All and all it was a good race. All I have to say is just look at the numbers LOL! There will more to talk about this match up in the future. :bigthumbsup

I don't quite understand. He has a 88 GT stock and his friend a 96 GT with a some bolt-on's. How can it have nothing to do with driver's error? Both were 5-speeds and it takes skill to drive them.

Stock 88 5.0 v.s slightly modded 96 GT, wouldnt they be putting out about the same power? I think drivers error played a role in this. But nice kill anyways.
They have to be running pretty close in terms of output, driver skill seems like it would be a big reason for the outcome ??
I too say driver race, because both would be making are 230hp at the engine. So thats like 200 at the wheels. The 5.0 is lighter and makes more tourque, but only in the slightest.
hey guys,
in my opinion, i think the driver was not holding the shifts long enough, the 4.6L is a high reving engine, the block is a ( V ) shape. believe it is a 90 deg pattern, and starts to come alive around 3500 rmp to 5000+. depending on the gear.
as the 5.0L is more of a torque engine, it pulls though at low rpm, but slopes out at top end.

this is all based on stock/light mod engine.
another thing is, i am sure that the 96 weighs more than the fox.
So i think that from light to light, the fox will have the 96, with out the 96 being a little bit moded for short light to light runs.
x-pipe would accually take power away, and although the cold air helps, with out the map sensor being up graded and the ecm tuned to it, it really just makes the engine run cleaner and smoother, as the original would keep the air flow the same, and restrict the cold air piping which is bigger. really no hp gains, maybe 2-3 hp.
this is just in my opinion,
thanks.
later.

3. As opposed to the 5.0 being what shape? Of all the differences in the engines that would shape the powerband, I think the the angularity of the cylinder banks is the least of them. Inlines, V's, and horizontally opposed engines are all equally happy to rev. Look at the new and old skylines and porches. all pretty revy.

Anyway, not to be a troll, just thought I'd point those things out:bigthumbsup

it's an old thread, but it was funny that people were saying that they wished they would bring back the 5.0 :)
