Strange Electrical Problem - Need Help

581 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Yadkin
The power windows stopped working some time ago on my 2003 V6. At the same time, the power mirrors, headlight chime, door-ajar chime and dome light door switch all stopped working. Oddly, when the door is open and key off, I can turn on the dome light with the power window switch! This all happened without any changes being made to the electrical system; it just freaked out! Any suggestions on where I can start looking for the short/problem?

It sounds like you have some kind of short or damage to the wiring harness that passes from the chassis along the hinge axis into the door. These wires are flexed repeatedly with door operation and the insulation probably got rubbed off somewhere and grounded out.

+1. It sounds like the door harness. Check for power at the door switches, and trace back from there.....
Thanks guys. Found the broken wire this weekend and coupled it back together with about 3" of slack to keep it from pulling in the future. I appreciate the quick help.
Damn am I good. I'm like a gawddam magician. :smoke:
