I was looking over my wheels when I was cleaning out the stang and I saw this chalky looking substance on some of my wheels (17" Painted-Aluminum stock wheels). The attached picture shows one such spot. I think this is some corresion on the wheel but I'm not sure what has caused it. Has anyone seen this before and have any advice as to how to remove it?

Thats kinda what I'm thinking. I saw this happen when I got some salt on the aluminum door sill plates and I didn't clean them soon enough. Not sure exactly what I can do about it if thats the case .

That's on the back of the wheel, which is characteristically not clearcoated. I had a similar corrosion appear on a set of Fanblade wheels stored in a non-breathing plastic container: the condensation just interacts with aluminum and there you are.

Once I saw that effect I cleaned and polished and waxed the wheels and haven't seen any more of that kind of phenomenon.
