well, got my boxes of parts, and am now installing things. I put the SR strut tower brace on this evening, with my stock hood, and I cannot close the hood - it looks like it wants to bend the hood! Has anyone else experienced this problem? Am I missing a step? The under hood pad may be part of the problem, but it looks like in the pictures others have posted that there should not be clearance problems even with the hood insulation pad.
I have the 4 hole mount - 4 studs to each side. I have a GT, 2006, with the stock hood.

Hey Linder,

This is definitely on the odd side and the first I am hearing about this!

Would you be able to shoot me over some pictures of what's going on so I can take a look for you?

I definitely want to make sure you get taken care of, I just need a little but more info to properly diagnose this.

Thanks!

Will - here are some pictures. Also, I don't think the hood pad is the issue either. It should clear. Do I have it on backwards?

from 2nd picture from the left, it looks like you have way to much bow in the brace. The ones I have on my cars sit very close to the plenum, can barely stick a finger in between. Wifes GT has a plenum cover and her brace just touches the cover.

Hey Linder,

Hmmm, this one does have me scratching my head a little bit. It's extremely hard to tell but having it on backwards is definitely a possibility at this point.

I pulled a few pictures and judging by the picture below, it does look like it is on a completely different angle, which makes me believe you might just need to flip it around. Have you given that a shot?

If it turns out that it is a defective unit, I would be more than happy to replace it for you at no cost, but at this point I would definitely check the fitment!

P.S- I spy with my little eye, something hiding under a cover... Do tell! coolbeans.gif

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions!

^^ agree.gif Looks to be backwards. If you switch it around and still have issues, have your vendor swap it for another one.

I have seen them to close to the motor but not to high to close the hood. Odd Indeed! :scratchchin

Thanks guys. Your picture Will shows the brace in the same direction as mine. I pulled it off and flipped it, and it is clear that it can only fit properly one way. I called the good folks at American Muscle, and immediately got a shipping label - just got back from UPS. I'll have another one on the way in a flash. Thanks AM - you guys are good.

And yes Will - good eye. There is something very special under that cover. It is my Porsche 928. It is a first year model, 1978, 5 speed, low miles. Unrestored original, in very good condition. It was featured in a 6 page spread in Hemmings Sports & Exotic Cars, in December 2013, Issue #100. Here's a couple of pictures:

Hey Linder,

It was indeed hard to tell from the pictures but at the end of the day I'm glad we got you taken care of! Keep me updated once you get the new piece installed!

On a side note, that is a stunning 928! I knew it was something out of the ordinary. Beautiful car. I turned right around to my coworker (huge Porsche fan) and watched his jaw drop.

Keep up the good work!
