My car wasn't starting and turning the ignition key didn't do anything. No noise, nothing. The warning lights/indicators would come on, the blower and wipers worked, so it wasn't the battery. I read somewhere that rocking the car with no e-brake on and it being in gear can release a possible stuck gear in starter, which it did and the car started.

There was another time this happened a few weeks ago but the car started on the 3rd or 4th try. I didn't have to rock the car in gear at that time.

Now my question is :

Do I need to replace the starter ? Is it on it's way to going bad ? If that's the case I'd rather take the preventive approach and replace it than get stranded somewhere. Or is it just a one off thing and there's no reason to replace it ?

It's a V6 2003 Mustang and it has 120K on it. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
