I bought my '06 about 3 months ago. It came with two remotes with one key on each. I never thought about trying the key in the trunk until recently since the remote opens it just fine. When I did try it, it turned fully but there was no click nor would the trunk unlock. Do I have a problem with the mechanism or did these cars come from the factory with a different key for the trunk.

theres a good chance your cable is not hooked up. open the trunk, the blk plastic covers pops off( it has some clips holding it) you`ll see the key mechanism. there should be a plastic pc that clips onto that mechanism with a cable on it.

so ya, there is only 1 key, and yes it should click, pop then open :)

When you mentioned the valet key, I decided not to wait. I tried my 2nd key and it didn't work either. I pulled the backing off and found that the plastic connector from the cable had fallen off. All is good now. Thank you both for your help.

Funny thing....i've never tried my keys in my trunk either. And my 08 came with 3 keys!! 2 actually start the car and the 3rd is like a dummy key. It only unlocks the driver side door.:?: Whatever floats Fords boat i guess.:shigrin
