Supercharger question?

Adding on a supercharger:

I feel like even though you adda supercharger on, it won't be on par with the power and speed of a cobra. Take for instance if you took an '04 GT threw on a supercharger(and a few of ther mods, headers, intake, gears, etc), it wouldn't be as fast as the '04 cobra since they are tuned by engineers who know what they are doing. Do you guys think this is true? I know it wouldnt be true for the '07 cobra and an'05 with a S/C cuz the '07 has a 5.4 L engine so we cant compete. But I'm hoping my thoughts are wrong, then maybe in a couple years I might consider that kinda power add-on. Other-wise I'll just save my money for a cobra down the road.

well as far as owning a cobra if you want to pay $50,000 or more go for it . if you were to build up a short block i.e bore and forged internals + s/c with 8-10 psi and fuel pump upgrade + some suspension parts you gt will be as powerful for far less. with the sale of the first 07shelby selling for over $600,000 id say your looking for a car you cant touch for under $60 grand and if you do get one why would you even want to drive it. when shelby dies that car will skyrocket in value. i say keep the gt and do what you want to it. the shelby is an investment. wheres the fun in driving that. now if i win the lotto then i will own one. hell if i could get one for $50 grand id own one ,store it . it will easily double in a couple of yrs. imho vynle.

True. One question...what is a "short block". I know it's a type of engine, but what makes it different from a small block, large block, etc. Or are short block and small blocks the same?

"Short block is an automotive term describing a bare engine including the block, crankshaft, and pistons, but not including the head, manifolds or any accessories like alternator or power steering pump. May or may not include camshaft. The camshaft will probably be included if the engine is a pushrod design and will not be included if it uses an overhead camshaft."

They are terms that are totally unrelated to "small" and "big" block.
I do believe that the 5.4L and the 4.6L are the same block, one of aluminum and the other of steel. I believe that the stroke is different, but the bore may not be. Anyone know for 100% certain?

Not sure I agree with this. I'm putting out more hp with less weight than the specs I've see for the 07 cobra. Granted that engine is larger & stronger but the spec of the stock 07 don't impress me given how much heavier it is. Now if you add more boost to it, then it's no contest.

True. I want to find out what the specs are like on the 07. Did any1 hear about the 1/4 mile times or 0-60?

I would want to be careful about boost, cuz I worry it will descrease the life of the engine too much if you amp up the PSI out of the recommended range.
I'll be SO hissed if I can't beat the cobra, and I'm talking +1 sec beat it!!! :sterb:
bore your 281 and make an 302 and youll be fine!!! vynle
Do a little research about s/c and application. I eat cobras for breakfast and will smoke the new GT500 as well and I am still on the stock bottom end. Granted, I am pushing it cause you really shouldn't go over 450 rwhp on these cars, but heck, it's easy to get there with any number of s/c. The kenne bell 8-10 psi kit, a saleen with 8-10 psi, vortech, paxton or ati with 12-14 psi will all get you faster than any stock cobra. No one is even going to dare think about upgrading their GT500 (for those VERY few who will have one) and you will probably never see one on the road.

I am building a 322 stroker to go into this car and plan to put around 650 to the wheels + 150 shot, so in the meantime, I have been pushing this to see what it can do and I have been over 500 rwhp for about 5 months with over 50 WOT passes at the track with no problems other than blowing a #15 fuel pump fuse every once in awhile. If set-up and tuned correctly you can easily put over 400 rwhp on these stock bottom ends.

The new Shelby will be rated at what, 450 or 475 hp?

That's crank horsepower - many of these cars are already making more brake horsepower than the new car is going to come out with.

Not really on the original topic, but it pertains to some of the later posts...
yeah keep your gt, you wont have that cheesy grill that comes on the gt500 plus you can make exterior changes to your gt and really not hurt your resale value , if you so choose to sell. imho i really like the look of the gt's more. just wish i had all leather seating . HEAR ME FORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!:sterb: vynle
i just have to add, that when i see my gt , i want to drive it. if i had the shelby id want to store it. all i see with it are dollar signs!!! and the occational granny drive!!!!! vynle:winks
The block can handle more power than any of us will ever see in our own cars. In 5.0 mag it stated the guesstimate is around 1000 HP at the crank.
No one will touch it

As I said in my post. NO ONE is going to mod that car! Sure it will handle almost 600 to the ground with some minor mods and a pulley swap but no way is anyone who owns one going to put any aftermarket parts on that car. So the the capability is really pointless. As a collector car (which it is) the only thing that matters is what it comes with.

I have a feeling that some of the individuals that purchase them pre-owned for several thousand less will be inclined to supe them up. But, yes I would have to agree that it will be very seldom a shelby purchased by the original purchaser will hot rod the car.
I personally do not feel that these will be as collectable as the original shelbys are. But who knows...
The 03-04 Cobras are wildly modded and was only a few grand less...

MD has GT500 parts in the shop for porting, pulley, etc.... it will be done!

Parts are being worked on as we sit here, belive me!

It's not a garage kept car, it's not THAT expensive! Nor exclusive!

Just my .02 Euro Cents again...
well if its not to be that expensive or exclusive all the more better to keep your GT. i really hope that the dealers pricegouge the hell out of it so nobody buys it, lol that would be funny. what will the production #'s be ,7000 maybe?even that may be high. i just think that there is such a buzz about this car it will be a collector car. how many corvetts are sold each yr. not all that many . thats one of the reasons ther so expensive and exclusive. how many corvett owners mod them, not to many. they're fair weather cars and glorified garage bling , right along with the vipers and now the 07 shelby! $50,000-60,000 does not a blue collar car make! vynle.
Chevykiller,

Dude, saying no one is giong to upgrade a GT500 is like saying no one is going to upgrade a Ford GT....... Or maybe it is like saying no one is going to upgrade a Ferrari F50........Oh wait people already have. For you Money is an object but it isn't for everyone. I will guarantee that the next SEMA you will see one heavily modded, go ahead and write it down, my prediction will come true.
mustang ,you sound like you know alot. how many people do you know that own ford gt's and ferrari's ?and how many of them have modded thier cars? my perdiction , none. yes a small few will , but the majority will not and that is a statistical fact! most of the owners ive come accross buy these cars and keep as is. the performance of these cars is very good without mods. many of these cars dont have many miles driven on them and over the years will have few miles accumulated, they are more or less show pieces. now the ones used for racing are the exception and are not the norm. my 50cents, vynle.
