I did some searches and couldn't find any related threads on this.

Traffic around here is horrible, and several times now while trying to get around slow traffic I've found myself having to hit my brakes while changing lanes. My suspension does not like that one bit, it's a little bit scary the car gets all out of balance and I'm caught trying to get her all lined up and back in control. I wish I could sense whether it is the back end or the front suspension getting me out of whack. Since this is not a normal everyday maneuver this has happened 4 times in the last 35K miles, which is every time I've hit the brakes while changing lanes.
I have a stock suspension Pony Package V6 Mustang, stock Pirellis, Ford strut tower brace, stock brakes, etc... I've considered LCAs for a while now since they seem to be the first big suspension/rear end upgrade. My dealership gave me a 4 wheel alignment right after my Advactrac ABS Control Module fix because on one of my drives with the Ford Tech I demonstrated the braking/lane change swerving and he offered an alignment job. So any ideas guys? Hoping not to shotgun parts at this, but I may have to go back to the dealer again even though I don't want to.

Sounds like a common issue as mine has always done the same. Sounds like most people go aftermarket to cure it. Ive adjusted to mine but it still bugs me. I believe it's the factory springs that are the main issue. Hoping to snag some FRP springs here this summer.

Should also clarify I believe this is limited to the base V6 suspension and not the PP or GTs. You may be able to find a low mileage GT take off suspension if you're looking to retain a factory ride. Good luck!

Ya I've looked at Boss 302 and also GT take off suspensions. I also remember when Car and Driver tested the 2011 Mustangs vs Camaros comparison the 2011 V6 Performance Package gave them all kinds of handling fits, but only in the slalom test, where they said it got squirrelly and out of control knocking over lots of cones. But it handled well on the handling loop and skid bad winning both of those tests.

I've experienced the same problem with my V6 base convertible. Pulled up on a slow car, changed lanes to pass, gassed it as i switched back and i almost lost complete control. Had to do corrective/counter steering.

I am getting new wheels, tires, dampeners and FRPP springs installed next week, hoping this will help.... Gets scary when this happens!

Trust me, you shouldn't brake hard and turn hard at the same time. It's physics. And it's what performance driving instructors teach.

Haha, ya, trust me I understand this, but big city traffic doesn't always let you maneuver smoothly. After this happened a couple of times I did the exact same thing in our family truckster, the Honda Pilot, and it's suspension stayed completely stable and predictable, even with its mushy suspension and high COG. The Mustang though is very unpredictable in that maneuver.
I've also had some track time, and graduated from the High Threat Driving Couse given by Uncle Sam, but the later was in Crown Vics and a couple of Durangos mostly. But I've never experienced this kind of quirky handling.
I really don't want to slam this thing down on too low, and I was hoping not to spend $1500 to 2000 on a full blown suspension. If I do a different spring rate I'm wondering if some Boss takeoffs that would only lower me .5" or maybe slightly more would help along with maybe a couple more components.

Red, I think if you invest a small amount of money in LCAs, stabilizer end links, and poly bushings, you'll improve the situation. I've been in the process of doing just this for my rear suspension to quiet down all the creaks and squeaks that tend to pop up, and have noticed that the rear is less squirrely as well.

If what you experience is a floaty/bouncing feeling then the best upgrade in my opinion would be shocks and struts. You can keep the factory springs for ride height considerations, but better shocks will control the suspension with more precision and allow you to control the vehicle during emergency maneuvers.

I have been running Koni STR.T shocks for about 20,000 miles and have nothing but great things to say. Ride quality is vastly improved over stock, even over rough pavement. Highway stability is excellent and I've had it over 150mph at the Texas Mile hitting airstrip expansion joints and the car stayed perfectly true.

It sounds to me like suspension upgrades are in order.

As you mentioned, LCAs help a lot (I'm using UPR) but probably the biggest upgrade for you would be a set of Konis and some lowering springs. Then control arms and sway bars.

(thinking outside the box: are your tire pressures where they should be?)

Red honestly I'd try playing with the tire pressure first. mine would do that at 35 psi in the tires and it would get squirrely on acceleration. I dropped mine down 2 psi and the feeling is gone and it doesn't react over uneven pavement.if that doen't cure or help it then it's time for new shock and struts.honestly I would also go wit the adjustable strut mounts. the camber may be a little off too causing this.

I've been having some odd handling issues the last couple of weeks myself — and have actually ben wondering whether the traction control has gone wonky. I have 19K on my GT, and it has been more tailhappy of late (I don't think it's a tire wear issue — although it is possible I have a bad shock). It's also been maddeningly inconsistent.

It's due for a normal visit to the dealer, so I plan to mention my issues and have them check all of the hardware and make sure the ABS/AvanceTrac is working right...

As an out of the box question: I'm noticing more body flex as the car ages, which is normal, I'm wondering if this is throwing off the ABS sensors....

Hi guys,

I recommend you make an appointment with your dealers to get them checked out. Then, PM me with your VIN, dealer, full name, mileage, and best daytime number so I can escalate this to the customer service manager of your areas.

Hey Deysha, I'm back in country so just now updating... I got new tires and the craziness went away. The Pirellis still had decent tread depth at almost 40K but they were done or overdue. OBTW the General G-Max's fell way better than the Pirellis did when they were new.

I have the FRPP N springs and the FRPP struts to match and the car is planted and actually acts like it needs larger rear brakes now. I can tell that by the smell of them after I get on the brakes hard. Stock the car felt like it was unstable. Now it is just a solid point and shoot car. The need for the larger brakes is happening because most of the forward weight transfer upon braking has been negated, thus putting more work load on the rear brakes.

I had this feeling on my base car. If I changed lanes it would wobble back and forth at high speeds or if I braked, as I was changing lanes, than hit the gas again it would get really squirrelly. Aftermarket springs totally cute that problem. I can change lanes accelerating at 100 mph with total precision now. When my stock shocks and struts go out... Ill get some nice Koni yellows to finish the deal.

I've done track days on motorcycles, but never in a car. I've also never used my car to dodge cones in a parking lot. Having said that, I have run the twistys in my Perf Pac car a lot. I realize that it's a Mustang not an F1 car. My car is very planted. I've had the accelerometer in the track app, over 90 on numerous occasions. I've never been out of shape.

If I was having problems, I'd start form the ground up, and do tires first. Tires make a HUGE difference with motorcycles. Just the correct air pressure makes a big difference. From there, I'd get ahold of someone that really knows suspensions before I started just throwing money at it.
