Swapping '08 HU for '07 HU - Sirius Compatibility?

914 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  ThirdHorseman
I like the 2008 headunit with the chrome buttons, and would like to install one in my 2007 GT. I have the Shaker 500 system.

However I want to keep my factory Sirius subscription active. I'm assuming the OEM setup is similar to aftermarket, where the Sirius interface is an external add-on that can work with another headunit. Does anyone know for sure?

I'm going to make a post in the Classifieds now, but if someone happens to read this that has replaced the OEM head unit with aftermarket or don't care for the chrome accents, I will swap you my '07 Shaker 500 head unit plus I'll throw in $25 to cover shipping the unit to me. Mine is in perfect shape.

Thanks in advance for your help!

True, the unit code[PAL] is in the sirius reciever and the interface box is the same so it should be a plug and play. Shouln't even have to re-subscribe. FYI the Ford radio is actually a Clarion unit that Ford bought thru Delphi.
Mods, thanks for moving this to the right place!

I appreciate the answer, you've been a great help :) Now I just need to find a unit!
If you have went that far, I would put in a new head unit W/Nav before I would reinstall another Shaker. Eclipse makes a good one. AVN 5500 or 6600. It also has Ipod, Sirus, Blutooth, TV, CD & DVD. Your Subscription to Sirus should carry with you no matter what you have in the car.

I have an Eclipse AVN5510 in my Tundra, and I am very happy with it. However, I do think that the sirius interface that comes from the factory will only mate up to a factory headunit. I am not sure, though. The sirius subscription is permanently attached to the OEM interface.

I don't intend on taking this very far at all. If I can find someone that wants to swap and I pay for the shipping, $25 is not really that big of a deal...
