swapping 4cyl to v-8 distibutor question

The car is 4cy can i use a FI V8 DISTRIBUTOR ON A CARB CAR WITH FACTORY 4 CYL HARNESS TEMPORARY! I THINK THE PLUG IN IS THE SAME! IF SOMEONE CAN HELP PLEASE REPLEY. 89 4CYL AND FACTORY 93 TROOPER CAR WRECKED!
