T-5 Durability and Modifying a 302

So I'm saving up for the T-5 conversion kit at CJPonyparts. once I get that (fast-forward a year or two) I was looking at the edelbrock 2091 top end kit for my 302 I already have in my car. It should be a good platform because it's just been rebuilt about 4-5k miles ago. the kit says it get's you 367 hp and 340 torque, but I'm going to go ahead and assume I will fall pretty short of these numbers. My question is, do you think the worldclass t5 can handle that. Any other suggestions for top end mods? I was also lookingat the gt40p heads but you need different headers to fit those. I'm open to all advice and suggestions. fire away

Reason for not building the 351w like I've been posting about:
So as a lot of you have probably noticed, I've been posting a lot about engine builds and 351w, etc. After talking with my parents, they didn't seem too fond of the idea of me building a 400hp engine and putting it in my car and putting in around 10k for the engine build, transmission, and rear axle. They said I would have to wait until I got out of college to put it in my car, that's 6 years from now lol. I understand why they said this. So now I have to go at this in a different approach. They're fine with me converting to manual.

A 302 and a 351 don't look that much different outwardly. Just a thought! :D

That's not a problem. I'm modifying the 302 that's already in my car. I didn't really specify that in the post sorry. I'm hoping they won't have a problem with me doing mods like this because it won't be making crazy power or anything. I probably just won't tell them what power I'm going to be getting around just in case haha

Anybody else?
hi. . i had similar probs lol. .ok to make hp you need compression. . when you have decent compression you need to run 91 to 93 octane . . all aftermarket heads and e7 or gt ford heads lower your compression so they must be machined to increase compression . if you have 280 or 3.00 gears you can not run a big cam. . if you have stock cast pistons you can not run heads with big valvs they will hit pistons . . what are your pistons? . . look at edelbrock street heads with 194 valves and mill them .028 if your pistons are flat on top. . comp ams xe256h cam with 280 gears or xe262h with 3.00 3.25 or 3.40 . . holley or quick fuel 600 or 650 carb . . eddy non rpm intake . . the xe262 needs better exhaust . . if you cant have headers see if you can have factory cast iron hi po headers . . an msd 6al iignition box will increase hp tq and mileage the 2 is the best but iis pricey . . the 1 is only 11.00 at summit. an anti vibration msd coil . . . . . b heres one hp r

Hey Ronson, thanks for the input! I'm most likely going to go with 3.55 gears after I put the tranny in. I read that the stock heads on my 302 have a 60cc combustion chamber so as long as I get heads equal to that or smaller volume to that my compression won't go down. I'm fine with using higher grade gas (only makes a couple buck difference when filling up). I think stock compression for my 302 is 9.5:1. I guess i need to definitely get a hold of edelbrock and ask them about the piston to valve clearance for my stock pistons and their performer heads. I'm definitely not going to get the e street heads. I've only heard bad things about them with the valve train. as far as cams go, I won't be going for any big lumpy one, just a nice mild one that will have a good enough idle to be reliable. also what do you mean by "edelbrock non rpm intake"? also I already have shorty hedman headers so I will only need different ones if I use gt40p heads. I don't really understand what you were trying to say in your last few words lol
again thanks for your input!

hi. m. 60 cc is too big you need 54. . if your pistons are dish you need 50 . . your compression is not 9.5 ford lied . . eddy heads are fine with smaller cams . . i would run the xe262h with 3.55. . eddy performer intake not the perf rpm.

I've never even seen heads that are that small of a volume. Is that came a flat tappet? Are the just plain performer intake better for street?

hi 54 cc is stock 65 thru 67 289 and 68 302. . . std hydraulic flat tappet cam . . a big cam needs a big intake both these cams are too small for an rpm intake. . a 271 hp hi po used a cheap old std cast iron 4v intake and it was pretty fast. n
