Hello All,

I have an 85 Mercury Capri (Mustang clone). Tonight, my shifter became very difficult to shift from 1st - 2nd and 2nd - 3rd gears. The shifter seems to work fine for 3rd - 4th - 5th and reversre. By the time I got it home, I could no longer access 1st or 2nd gear.

Could this be a shifter problem? Or could the transmission have finally given up the ghost?

The clutch cable is fine - it is the complete Steeda kit. And the clutch is only 8 months old. The clutch functions fine.

sounds like the 1-2 shift fork took a dump in the tranny. time to look for another trans or fix the one you got.

I too say it's probably the shift fork.

thanks guys

Thanks guys for your input. I guess the old T5 is history. More input is welcome.

It still was the strangest thing. As I was out driving, the shifting became gradually harder until it would almost not move between 1st & 2nd and 2nd and 3rd.

I changed the fluid every 5,000 - 8,000 miles. I guess I'm lucky I got as much life out of the old T5 that I did.
