My tailpipes are black on my 2012 GT with BAMA 93 Race Tune. Have 3" Heartthrob CB with Rousch mufflers, Airaid CAI w/ insert removed. I can't even get the tips completely clean. Had this same exhaust on my 2011 GT also runing 93 Race Tune. Mufflers were never black like this on other car in 8000mi. Only been runing Race tune in 2012 for about 400mi. Way too rich! Anyone else have this problem?

Why are you thinking it's the Bama tune?

It could be something wrong with the hundreds of other parts that make up the motor, couldn't it?

I'm not saying it isn't the problem. Although this is the first I'm hearing of it.

Mine get a little sooty but nothing that doesn't come off with the weekly wash. Might want to get that checked out.

Did your kids draw straws to see who got what car?

These cars are controlled by wideband sensors, so the chances of it running rich are really slim. They will adjust air/fuel ratio in the event that the tune is off. Either way, if you'd feel more comfortable - definitely give our Bama tuning specialists a call any time at the Bama direct number/hours listed in my signature. They should be able to double check all of the modifications that you submitted and the tune we wrote to ensure that everything matches.

From there, we can take a look into diagnosing any other problems. Have you been using a different gas station? How many miles are on the car (is it broken in)? Etc.

We'll get it squared away, no worries!

Traded my 2011 GT/CS for 2012 Brembo GT both manual. I have 3 Mustangs, trade every year. My daughter drives 2011 3.7 V6 automatic Pony Pkg and son drives 2011 GT500 SVT Pkg.
Hey! You looking to adopt a 34 yr old? I'm cheap, a 2008 GT 500 will do. Lol:laugh:

Lucky kids I hope they appreciate you.:bigthumbsup

should also depends how you drive the car as well, no?

i've had 4 tuned vehicles so far, from Challenger ,to hemi jeep, to f150 to mustang... and each one dumps small amounts of black smoke and soot does collect on the tail pipes.. but not a crazy amount.

(and some vehicles used Diablo tuners, some sct, some custom tuned)

Been running the Bama Race tune for the last 3500 miles and I drive very hard, several trips to the track, etc. Tips are still shiny even though I haven't cleaned them (other than spraying them off at the car wash).

My Mazdaspeed3, now that car sprayed some soot. I gave up trying to keep the tip clean and had a line of soot on the garage floor from every startup, lol.

My bama tune is messed up too, but atleast they responded to your thread. Made posts about it before which they ignored and left them a message and never heard back. Will try calling again soon. For the record I have no issues with black tailpipes, but when cruising my car doesn't want to downshift when giving like 20-50% throttle. Instead it bogs and makes this weird deep sound. Basically I have bad throttle response where the car doesn't want to move and just bogs unless I go full throttle. If I go full throttle it goes balls out and is great, but with regular driving there's something very wrong. I also have the Airaid intake and left the insert out.

Daughter is 16 and can't drive manual! No GT500 for her. Son is 18 and has road race and lots of track experience both on Motorcycles and Cars. He is very fast.

Very weird issue, but I'm sure nobody was purposely ignoring you. Bama is here in the building Monday-Friday from 9AM-5:30PM EST at 888.226.9764 and they'll be glad to help out. Usually and tweaks to the tune are done within 10-15 minutes.

Bama will take a look at the mods that you submitted and make sure that they're written correctly. They'll also make sure that the mods were submitted correctly. If everything checks out (which there's probably a small issue that's easy to fix - like tire size/gear ratio, etc.), then they'll help you diagnose it.

We have an auto 2011 GT and send those files out to hundreds of people each month, so I have confidence that it will get solved fairly easily!

Let us all know how it goes!

Sent data log info to Ryan at BAMA yesterday afternoon, had new 93 Airaid race tune back this morning. Car was running rich at idle and part throttle up to 3500 rpm. Very happy with tune now. Data log is the way to go! Feels like a different car.

Had 2.9 Whipple installed on son's GT500. Base run early this morning 637 RWHP 601 ft/lbs torque. Still going to have tune dialed in a little better.
