I have a 2000 GT and had the ping/knocking/ticking in the engine that I read from other posts. After taking it to a couple of dealerships I heard they wanted the engine replaced, and one guys said it was a lifter problem. I came aboard here and read all pertinent posts and decided to change my plugs, even though I replaced them a few months ago. Simple fix and it worked. Now I am going to replace all the coil packs. I wanted to thank all of you for posting. It helped me tremendously.

Just wanted to say thanks, what a great forum.

Man, when I hear stories about dealers diagnosing sounds and telling you from that, "You need a new engine," I just cringe  . Glad you did your homework and it's nice to hear you learned from posters on this forum.

Why can't dealers be honest?

Glad you find the problem, the forums here help out a lot of people and look like it help you out too.. Dealers just don't know how to be honest:mad: . They just want people money.... make me mad:mad: .. but anyways good job on the fix..
i bet if the car was on warrenty you would never hear the work replace and engine together.. more like, change this so the problem goes away for a little bit.
