I didn't invent this little modification, so my apologies to wherever I saw it a few months back. I forget if it was on one of the Mustang forums or a YouTube video, so I can't give you credit. But I saw this somewhere and thought I'd give it a try.
Cut the antenna mast off flush with the top of the 'boot' portion. A pair of diagonal-cutters worked perfectly.
Then spend $2.98 + tax at O'Reillys Auto Parts for the Dorman 47396 vaccum cap assortment. Or go to pretty much any parts store on the planet. (I used the long 1/4" cap).
There's a weak radio station down in Tunica, MS on 96.1 which comes in on the Mustang just fine but would only work in my old 4Runner in a few parts of town. Chopping the antenna in half hasn't affected my ability to pick up a really weak signal at all, so I don't think this has affected my radio reception.
Much cheaper than a billet stubby, and most of those had negative reviews for killing radio reception.
