The big job needs many brians

OK, so I'll need to change frame rails front & rear. Does anyone know how to position/jack the car without making a frame jig? It seems wherever you place a jack, a stress point is created somewhere else.
I'm not trying to be lazy just want to explore different ideas and ways of thinking. My project is in it's beginning phase and the long happy journey is ahead. Thanks in advance

What makes Brians so much better than everybody else? Granted I'm only Josh but I'm still better than a lot of Brians I know!
Give him a break Josh, apparently he's a Brian Surgeon:shigrin

I'd probably do one end at a time and support the remaining half on the tires layed flat, larger area of support than just a couple stands.

you can place a 4x4 on jack stands on the pinch weld just behind the frame rails. take lots of measurements before you do anything.
next time I'll write in french or Italian . OMFG. I thought this place was serious. go to FB.
Remercier à tous qui prend des choses sérieusement.
"Thanks to everyone who takes it seriously"? close oui?

Just having a little fun with the title and thread in some good ideas. As mentioned take some prior measurements, I'd probably use graph paper so it's not just random numbers. The biggest thing of course will be trying to keep the end you're working on from sagging. Even with good subframes many of us add frame connectors as the body's sag over time.

You are very close to right on with your translation. I've dug up every piece of material that shows measurements so the objective is clear. I'm thinking of making a "H" under the passenger compartment. Differential and rear rails will have jack stands. Support the front rails and center link. Then finish taking the front apart. At that point the front won't have anymore weight, which should make it easier to weld new frame rails once weight is removed, I guess???. Trying to work with what I have.
I've seen some frame jigs pictures that I could make as well but don't think I'll do it all at once. Fix one section at a time.
Oh yeah, I'll make the "H" out of 2" X 8". Everything is on paper for now. Many uncertainties. Please, anyone's option is welcome, even Josh. I know he was kidding. I'll pay more attention with my key strokes. No hard feelings Josh?
Cheers

Dang it Josh.......... I saw nothing in Mikes message making any reference to K-codes. Dude, if he has any ties with GSP your on your own !

Mike, Ne laissez pas la réponse de Josh obtenir pour vous. Il jt s'amuser et veut pas de mal

Mike, Do as Jonk67 indicates and support everyhting before you start so nothing moves while you work. Work on one section at a time without moving anything. Take the time to study the work a hand and make your self a plan. Attached are some helpful dimensions (assuming you have a 65 - 66)

By the way, what the hell is FB ?

I thought this place was serious
If you want to be serious, go to a Catholic mass. If you want to have fun with your hobby, make e-friends with other enthusiasts, and learn lots of things, come here. My specialty is bodywork...I don't think it would be in your best interests if I went to FB.

Rick, FB=Facebook. n00b. But what the hell is GSP?

Sorry, I left off the attachment.
If your car is not a 64, 65, 66, let me know as I may have some other dimensions

Well, I'm just not into this whole acronym thing. ...... FB=Face Book and here I thought FB meant something like F**K*n Bangkok or something.

GSP = George St. Pierre. (One of the best MMA fighters ever)
Thanks guys, glad to see I'll laugh & learn throughout this journey. I'll measure everything, then measure it again. The measuring is key. I'll keep you informed.
Going to meet a local guy tomorrow to visit his restoration shop where he is in the progress of restoring 3 mustangs.
Will be great fun.

By the way, GSP and I go way back.....kidding. $500 a pop last time he was in Montreal. That was for the rafter seats.

I would also second the suggestion of the 4x4 under the pinch welds. To put it anywhere else is just going to be pushing up on the floor pans which are not rigid or firm. I'm sure either Jon or Rick can relate :kooky:

Man can 24hrs can change things. The guy I saw today has a 67 Cougar in his jig right now. Made a deal with him & he'll put my car in his jig in December. Great price, to fix all my problems. attached a quick view of my problems. Straight and true is all I hear about so a jig it will be. Now on to things I know but I'll have to learn welding and make a jig if there is ever another one.
Have a great weekend everyone

Are you changing complete front and rear frame rails? Is the car already stripped or does it still have a motor and tranny? I'm replacing all rails on a 65 fastback right now and what I did was weld a bunch of 1" tube an basically create a cage in the car. Then I have supports welded out from the cage holding the car off the ground as well as jack stands to keep everything level and square.
