It ended up being super sunny and warm (shockingly) and my Zaino wax wasn't here yet. It's supposed to rain for the next few days, hopfully I can get it done after that. I guess I could always do it just before sunset when it not in direct sunlight...
One question, do I have to wax it the same day? That's one worry for me. If I need to clay it and wax it the same day I have to wait for a day on the weeked where I have all day!
Thanks,
Joe

I hope your job came out ok albireo, I used the clay magic before getting the zaino, clay magic also made the detail spray. Did they recommend this? I went out of town for the weekend and could not post. I think you made a wise choice.

Help!

Up front...sorry for being so 'dumb' on this subject!! Can someone PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE explain all this detailing mumbo-jumbo to me? As someone new to the whole wanting-to-keep-my-car-beautiful club, what are the steps I should follow?? My 06 GT...is black. Need I say more? :laughlitt Can't help it, fell in love with the color! BUT. It stays outside (gasp!) AND I live in Ohio...saltbelt...'nough said. I've been going to the car wash for quick washes to keep most of the grime off, but, of course, it's been the usual crappy Ohio weather, so I've not had a chance to really wash/wax her. Thinking of having it detailed professionally just to keep her looking good until warm weather appears.
With all of that said....what're the 'steps' to keep her looking good?? What's with the dawn dish soap? Whaddaya mean about 'lube' and the whole dawn/water mix?? What's 'claying'?? I understand that Zaino is THE best from the posts I've seen, but Maguire's is good, too, yeah? My Dad uses a wax called Nu Finish....what's the word on that? Please help the poor little girl out (ME, not the car!). :dunce:

Dawn get's rid of old wax so you have a clean slate to work on.
Claying is when you use a clay bar, you can get these just about anywhere they sell car stuff. Its a small bar of clay that you use with the lube (wetting agent that comes with it) to remove particles from your car to make the finish smooth as a baby's tush.
If you drop the clay bar on the ground, you are supposed to pitch it as it is as bad as dropping your bread with butter side down on the floor.
After you do all that then you can wax or use Zaino which is not a wax but more like a polymer. You can go to Zaino's website for more info. After all that you want to use a car washing soap rather than Dawn so you don't remove all the work you just did. :eyebulge:
Zaino is nice because it doesn't leave nasty residue on all the molding\plastic parts on the car.

I don't think you have to Zaino the car the same day, provided you do a though wash with the zaino carwash, I think this is one way they recommend anyway. The main point is to make sure the surface is clean of impurities.
