Just a few questions:i havr already bought gt40 intake an cold air maf with 24 lbs injectors havent put the on yet cause i havent got a new throttle body yet i was told to junk the lil throttle body an put a 75mm one in it but dont know about the spacer part. All that i have done is eliminated ac an smog pump moved power steering pump, undrive pulleys,
Eh, I'm not sure here. The opening on a tubular GT40 intake may be 70mm, and I'm not sure about the '93 Cobra upper, but I know for a fact the opening on an Explorer GT40 intake is definitely not 70mm. It's closer to 65mm.The TB opening on the GT40 is 70mm. You want the 70mm TB and spacer. American Muscle has them.
Always thinking...very good. Thanks for that! For the record the Cobra upper is 70mm also.Eh, I'm not sure here. You would know a lot better than me! Thanks for helping to clarify/confirm this. :bigthumbsupAlways thinking...very good. Thanks for that! For the record the Cobra upper is 70mm also.
Wow, from every reference I could find, the tubular GT40 was 70mm, like the Cobra. You would know a lot better than me! Thanks for helping to clarify/confirm this. :bigthumbsup
I not sure about the tubular piece, but I remember reading somewhere it was 70mm too, and I doubt it's 75mm. I know the Explorer is ~65mm because that's what mine was originally. I ported it to 75mm. Big pile of aluminum shavings later... :bounce2:
sorry about the last feed was using my phone. i just bought a cold air intake and a 75m maf that is set up for 24lbs injectors. i also just bought the gt40 intake upper and lower from a explorer. i havent put any of it on yet cause i am waiting for the throtte body so i can put it all together at once. this way when i take my old intake off i can put the 24lb injectors in cause it has 19lbs injectors in it right now. I didnt know if i had to get a spacer with the throttle body or if it need to be put on without oneJust a few questions:
The moral of the story is you need the spacer bore to match the throttle body size, and you should port the upper intake inlet to match the spacer.
- What exactly is a "cold air maf"? Do you mean a cold air intake, or an aftermarket mass air flow assembly, or both?
- How big is the MAF housing you have?
- Why 25 lb./hr. injectors, and is the MAF you have calibrated for them or do you have a tune?
- Have you purchased a throttle body yet?

Again, the moral of the story is everything needs to match. It's okay for the MAF housing to be a bit bigger as it should be (1-6mm is good, maybe even 10mm bigger), but the throttle body, spacer (or elbow for 94-95 applications), and upper intake inlet really should be the same size. Any steps here will cause turbulence.
The spacer is mostly for the throttle cable....To answer your question the stock spacer leaves you enough room for your throttle cable to work. If you don't have that spacer then your throttle lever will hit your fuel rail and not open the throttle up. I know this because I tried it and failed a few years ago.
