Time to step up!

Well its been decided between my father, my tuner, and myself that its time to step up. Since last fall ive been having some problems with the mustang. Its been backfiring thru the exhaust during wot runs. This spring i finally bought a wideband and installed it.
After installing the wb i took a run up the road. The reading at wot was 9.5. Way too fricken rich! We need to lean it out around 2 points or so, for a target of around 11.5-12. 12 being the absolute highest!
How is he gonna do that? you are probably wondering right now.
Well i still have the small 3.8# (actually make 4.5 or so) spring laying around. So i installed it along with the 15# spring (which is making 16-17 psi) For a total of a lil over 20lbs of boost. I wont really know how much it makes cuz my boost gauge only goes to 20. HAHA What was i thinking buying a boost gauge that only goes to 20!
We are gonna do some testing in the morning to make sure that the combo will work well. And that its not gonna lean out too much, but i dont think that will happen.
I dyno'd at 448 at 15.8 psi, making a solid 17hp per lb of boost. Using those numbers 17*4.5=76.5hp will be my gains. In theory...
I plan on taking the car to the track tuesday nite and footbrake my way into the 10s. If everything is a go!

Well we took it up the road and the a/f is still really fat!!! Gonna get a leaner tune from my tuner.
But 20+ psi felt really good!:gringreen Its only gonna pull better with a better tune
Sounds good!!! lol Good luck and hope you get the tens. Are you and your father's cars some of the quicker cars in your area?
We live an hour away from bowling green. There are a lot of fast drag cars there. But as far as 6 bangers go, yes we are the fastest around
Two of my Professor's went to grad. school there, they said it was nice, somewhat small but nice.

That is kind of the way it is here. Lots of fast V8's and inline 4's but not too many fast 6's of any type. I know a couple of BMW guys that have some extensive work and my two of my friends with 350Z/G35 have superchargers on them but not too many fast 6's, none in the Mustang/Camaro categories... lol
There is only one that is faster than mine in existence that we know of as far as production V6's, but he will go down in due time. We get alot of attention with our cars and they are well deserving of it.

His car should do well on Tuesday night. He still has to catch
me......;)
lol. It sounds like he is well on his way to catching up though. And in a single-port too. Definitely deserving of respect.

about a year ago i saw an article in either MM&FF or 5.0&SF about a V6 stang running 9.60's...it was a white 94-98 body style sn95, i think the guy's name was Matt something i can't remember. is that who you're talking about?

That is our friend Matt. He lives a couple hours away from us, and his best is 9:76. He has a big target on his back right now, but racing here is hit or miss with the heat.

Does he work for Delk Performance? Cuz I've seen videos of a Delk rep in a white "jellybean" going against SSM's green Fox-body... And I also saw a similar article a while back... :scratchchin
ya thats matt, he works for delk
After reading this thread, I jumped on the MM&FF website. The article on Matt's car and another article on a customized 2001 V6 with SSM parts is on the site. I believe they're under "Features".
Ya that 01 v6 is just to flashy for me!
I like keeping to the basics myself, but he did a nice job on putting it together.
Well for an update on how my car did. I didnt break into the 10! It was fairly warm out tues nite. I did run a [email protected] mph. Then backed it up with a 11.10. She ran ok i guess. I know that there is alot more to be had. I just need to get a spot on tune and some sub 80* temps would be nice.
My car has developed a new problem that i hope we can track down in a timely, inexpensive manner. I noticed when i took the car back to the shop yesterday that it was smoking out the exhaust. Pretty bad! We did a compression test and it was 150 all the way around. It just seems to smoke when it gets hot. There is no coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant.
Anyway, we will find it and fix it. Then when some cooler weather comes our way she is goin on the dyno for 20+psi and race gas tune
ya thats matt, he works for delk
Man - I gotta get down South to start hanging with all you V6 monsters!!! 3 of you in the 9-11s ETs and only a couple hours apart... It's hard to even get track time up here in the snow belt! :shigrin

Props on the low 11's Jr... You will get into the 10s soon enough! :bigthumbsup Since I also have a single-port, I'm rooting for ya to rep our engines!! Then ya gotta focus on taking out Dad... ;)

As far as the smoking goes - are you still running rich? Maybe excess fuel is causing the smoke... or did you get that fixed? Just throwing up ideas. Let us know what ya find. :happydance:
G
11.09 not too shabby.....:bigthumbsup

i feel for you racing in the heat.....
Silver J, at this point its not a fuel problem. I had that problem at wot. This was just casual driving to the shop. The A/f was right where is should be.

Thanks Reggie! The heat makes a car perform so much different.
