Tips for drag racing for the 1st time

I'm planning on heading to the local track in the next few weeks, to get some baseline numbers on my Shelby GT. Previously, I've raced my old Subaru WRX which is not an easy feat with AWD. I just wanted to ask what rpm should I launch at and also how much of a difference does it make to turn off the TCS?

I launch at around 3000-3500 and slip the clutch a little till it gets rolling. If you are running the stock tires its about the only way your gonna get off the line. As far as the tcs, I turn it off when I remember, I think my best time Ive ran was with it on. But if you plan on doing a burn out it will have to be off. Burn outs with street tires is really a waste of time. Stay outta the water box, go up there and do a little spin to clean the tires off and pull up to the line.
