Hi all,

I know this topic has been discussed to many ends, however I can't seem to find good answers based on experience. I have a 65 coupe, pretty much stock front suspension, the car is lowered 1 inch all around and a few other things. I want to fit US Mags' Standard Wheel. 17x7 all around with 225/45/17 in the front and 245/45/17 in the rear. Will I have any issues with rubbing? The backspacing on these wheels, I was told, is made for the 65 Mustang at 4", is that not enough? Looking forward to some answers!

I don't have an exact answer to your question, but I've been in the tire industry for many years in my past life and you should try and keep the circumference the same front and rear or you will experience a funky feeling rolling down the road

It doesn't really show the wheel fitment too well, but I can tell you that I am lowered right around and inch and I have the wheels you are looking at. Fit is great up front, but I did have to clearance the rear fender lips slightly.

So, Beech, since it's a 404 link, does that mean we don't need to know anything about tires and wheels? *grin*

ooops........do a search for dodgestang...he's on several forums and is the author....tracker.....he's gathered info for about 10+ years.....

I'm running a 235/45/17 on a 17X8 all around. I autocross my car and have zero rubbing. Its lowered with rolled fenders in the rear and a lip trim in the front removing 3/8" off the inside lip, no roll. The 225 up front will work, and so will the 245 in rear as long as you go with a 4 3/4" backspacing on a 17X8 wheel. A 17X7 is not wide enough for the tire. The issue is not the rear, but rather the front and rubbing the inside front of the fender as you turn. 4 1/2" BS is not quite enough, go 4 3/4" and you'll be happier with the clearances. That extra 1/4" makes a big difference. Also, plan on rolling your fenders for extra clearance with the 245.

FYI - most shops only offer 4 1/2" BS as default, and only a few of those will offer a 4 3/4" BS. Be sure to ask before you throw down your money. You shouldn't see any rubbing with a 4 1/2" BS and a 225 tire. You'll rub in the rear in bumps and corners with a 245 on a 4 1/2" BS so plan on rolling your fender.
