I have an 08 GT/CS lowered on sportlines with the stock 18x8.5 premium wheels. I have a set of 19x9.5" SVE Drifts (+35mm) sitting in the garage until I decide on a proper tire size/brand. I am torn between a 275/40/19 or a 285/35/19.

The 275/40 will fill the fender up really well but I'd like to have as wide a rear tire as I can without rubbing on the sportlines. I've heard that certain manufacturer tires run wider than others. Anyone have any personal experience cheating the sizes like this?

Another thing to consider is the 4.10 gears I have installed. Going from the stock 235/50/18 tires (27.25" tall) to either tire in consideration results in:

275/40/19 --> Diameter: 27.66" Effective Gear Ratio: 4.06
285/35/19 --> Diameter: 26.85" Effective Gear Ratio: 4.16

I feel like typing this post helped make the decision a bit clearer but I still wanted to do my due diligence and ask for other opinions.

285 is too wide for a 9.5" wheel

Before we hear "I have 285's on my 9.5" wheels and they are fine" -- yes they will go on; but they won't have much bigger actual contact patch than the 275's due to the sidewall bulging. To be really sure, look up the tire manufacturer's specs for the tire you are considering, on TireRack or wherever.
