Maybe it's just because my head is tired of following wires, but I seem to be dumb when it comes to Ford wiring.

No gauges work.

CVR number 1

Got 12 volts to one side (left looking at back of gauge cluster) and solid test light

Volts flicker on opposite side, but get a constant test light (not blinking)

If I ground the gauges and leave the positive hooked to the CVR then the gauges peek.

I decided the CVR must be bad.

Threw on a spare *new digital* CVR (disconnected the battery first)

CVR number 2

Somehow caused Headlight brightlight indicator to come on solid (goes off when headlights are on and brights are off), left turn signal indicator is solid, and the right turn signal indicator blinks very slow when applied... (disliking fords now)

Still no gauges working.

Could it be that luck of the draw I'm dealing with two bad CVR's?
I'm dreaming about Ford schematics I've been looking at them so long.

Ya'll are awesome!

Cvr

Sounds like the CVR is good, 12 volts in and approx. 6 volts pulsing out. Also the gauges sweep full so there good. Give us some more information. Where are you grounding the gauges? One at a time, all together?

Seems like you lost the ground to the instrument cluster. Check to see if the ground wire is connected right next to the CVR, look at the illusration attached.

Turns signals are another issue, check all the bulbs first. If not the flasher unit.

Attached a wiring diagram
