I've got CAI udp and 3.73. Brenspeed tuned. Get the gears, I don't look back once at having my 3.31s. Install and gears cost me around 500$ for everything.
To gear or not to gear?

Thanks man! I forget if 3.31 was the same for the manual also. Is your car an automatic and any drivetrain noise at high speed with the 3.73? At full throttle does she chirp 1-4?:D
Manual usually comes with 3.55. In my auto, I began with the stock 3.31s and then went 3.73s. Now I'm running 4.10s. With my supercharger, I think 3.73s was the best blend for street and strip. If you're not supercharging it.....I would say 4.10s. It's a great seet of the pants feel and using a good tune, like one from Brenspeed, you'll cherish the day you did the gear swap.

Let us know what you decide.

Mine does have some whine, but it doesn't annoy me very much as my exhaust drowns out most of it. Yours should have 3.31s mine was an auto as well. She always chirped to 4th gear now I can't floor it below 20 mph otherwise I lose traction because my tires are too hard of a compound to actually grip. Not complaining though :gringreen

07 GT, Bama, C&L CAI, 3.73, auto.

WOT, spins through first, get good rubber on 2nd shift, and chirps at 3rd.

I went to 3.73 from 3.31. Added about 250 RPM on the highway, but I still don't find it too bad - at 65-70 MPH, I'm running at 1750-1800 RPM. I can still touch 27 MPG with good highway crusing.

4:10's and don't look back!!!

We had 4:10's put in our 2007 GT auto convert. You will not be disappointed! at 60-65 we are doing @2300 rpm's and getting 28 mpg! this will make you smile from now on! Engine does not seem like it's working hard at all, and get's up and flies when you ask it no matter how fast you are going. Do it, it will be the best thing you can do besides a supercharger to feel the power in the seat of your pants, and thats what it;s all about! We didn't supercharge our car yet, most people say if you are go with the 3:73 gears instead. This is my wifes car, and I think it scares her now? she will not let me supercharge it for her, thats the kind of difference it will make!:woo:

be sure they know how to do an 8.8 diffy

Be sure you know or the shop knows what they are doing to work on a Ford 8.8 diffy, I had a local shop do my truck too, they messed up the clearance and destroyed the gears...It's worth the cost to have a GOOD shop do this work.
DONT FEAR THE GEAR! i have a 5sp with 3.31s and i plan on doing at least 3.90s

Wow, really? 28 mpg @ that speed/RPM seems crazy high!
Agree with adding 4.10s to an automatic. Wife has an 06 GT Vert automatic with UDP's, electric water pump, aluminum DS, CAI, 93 octane performance dyno tune and FRPP 4.10's. The gears were the last mod done and finally woke up the car. Before that we had 3.73's in it and those did very little. Go 4.10's.

I never got 28 mpg even before I switched to 4.10's, but if you are going by what the computer says your getting probably not accurate, mind gives me about 2 - 2.5 mpg more than when I do the math on the highway miles and about 1 - 1.5 more in city mpg. It says 24 HW mpg but it really is only about 22

I put 410's in my 07 with automatic. C&L with tune, Pypes exhaust with an X pipe. Easily grabs 2nd gear and when stomped on will 3rd gear scratch. I have 373s in 91 5.0 and easily streetable. So with the 07 I opted for 410s. Gonna lose some gas mileage but well worth. Got em for about $500 installed.

To Gear or not to gear

Thanks very much to everyone for all the responses and info as it is very much appreciated. :bigthumbsup To complicate my decision, the weather really changed right after I started this thread. Sandy was battering the NE and Ohio vally while south Florida got into and some cool Canadian air for the first time since last spring. Now we are back to normal temps but I just don't know. The car runs great and is right on the edge of traction. I went out for a Mid Night Bonzai run the first night of the 50 degree weather. I was trying to set up my Cell to take a video slowly rolling at idle and just put it to the floor and the car just Did a nice burn out thru all of first and second and finally got some traction in second and took off! :yelpleased:That was just to much fun! I hope they have Hot Rods in heaven! So I just cant imagine the car having traction with more gear without some kind of serious rubber. I just think I will take the plunge an go 4.10 then even it I loose first, second will be very strong and I should have a gear for almost every occation! :smoke: Thanks again and I will post my desicion. But first To Nitrous or not to nitrous!:D

IMO, don't waste ur money on a ZEX system. I had one, was fun for a while, but that fun didn't last long. If ur seriously looking for some giddyup...sink ur money into a SC. Wish I had done that before spending lots of $$ trying to do what a SC will do, but staying NA. I eventually learned and graduated to a SC pony.

I say gears first.

Learn your car with that change and then if nitrous is still your choice, give it the giggle gas. I have not run nitrous. I want to be transparent about that right up front however, if I were to run spray, I would set up a 100-125 wet shot on a window switch to spray between 5k rpm and a 6200 -6500 rpm shift point.

You don't want it spraying lower because below 3k is your cruising rpm. The engine really lights up around 3000, but typically starts to fall off around 4700 to 5000 rpm. So a kick in the pants to get you through that portion of the rpm range, I would think, would be a great place to use that help. A window switch will do that for you so that once again you can focus on driving and feeling the car to instinctively know when the spray is going to hit instead of sitting there with your thumb on a button and trying to decide at which point do I want to push the button.
All that being said, you can buy and install a killer supercharger by the time you've purchased, installed, retuned the car and refilled your bottle over the course of a year. You never have to worry about your supercharger running out or remembering if you opened your supercharger valve or doing the math to figure out if your supercharger heater has the gas hot enough yet.
