Does anyone have experience with puting a large dog in their 2010+ stang? When I say large I am talking 95 pounds. I am wondering if I should move the front seat all the way back and let him lay up front or if I should put the seat forward and but him in the back... Also if I do put him in the back should I fold the seats down or leave them up?

One of my two dogs is 90 pounds... he fits okay except the front seat is more backrest than cushion so he spills out of the seat a little, LOL.

Like kids, the rear seat is safest but our cars at least have the sensor to know not to set off the airbag when there's not enough weight on the seat.

My dog won't stay put in the rear seat though so it's pretty futile to attempt to put him back there. I should have him buckled in with a harness restraint but fortunately he lays down after we get up to speed right away anyway.

PS Oh, and premium as in leather? Lots of thick blankets to protect the seat and console then. Not a bad idea to cover the front carpet with towels either... my current dog doesn't get carsick but once you've had a dog christen a new car you tend not to want to take chances on that. :gringreen

My dog is only 40 lbs or so and it's a complete PITA to take him anywhere in the 'stang. The backseat is so tight he gets pretty skittish, plus he's already so damned excited just to be going anywhere it just adds to the insanity. Then add the fact that there aren't any windows for him to stick his nose out and his drooling all over the leather. Not fun.

my dog is jumbo sized @ 130 lbs and completely dismissed the idea that he will ever get to go for a joy ride or to "bad places" like the vet or grooming in the Mustang. For that we have a minivan.

Sorry, I can't be of any help to you

Mine is 150lbs. There is no getting him comfortable, so he constantly is moving and trying to get comfortable. Cleaning his drewl is reason in itself to use the wifes SUV. The best thing I have found is to move the front seat all the way back and he puts his butt on the floor and upper body on the seat.

Thanks for the input. I think I will try puting him in the front so at least there is a window

I fold down the rear seats and cover the area with a blanket when transporting my 2 small dogs. Not sure if a large dog would fit back there, though.

My dad's 90lb German Shepherd puppy happily hops in the back. Unfortunately, it's usually from the ground, bashing his legs on stuff as he goes
That's awesome!

If you transport your dog in a different vehicle, that doesn't help answer my question my all. Please refrain from posting pointless comments. You can say the dog is cute or something like that but quite frankly, I could care less about what other vehicles you have. No offense

you have to be crazy to let any dog in your mustang, I have 5 dogs and love them to death, I bought an old nissan sentra to drive them around in . just can't justify ruining a brand new car with dog hair and puke maybe even a turd but to each his own, and yes they can crap in your car especially when they start to get car sick on a winding road

I would try either of these: recline the back seats and let it sit on top (probably he will bump his back and head against the roof) or just let him get in the back and let him figure out how to fit in, being totally uncomfortable with the middle hump of the seat.

Dogs can curlp up into small spaces, let him figure it out.

The front seat could be dangerous because if he starts fiddling around he could distract your driving (like stepping on your legs or blocking your view)

On the contrary, it took me 20 minutes to clean the dog fur and mud up after he was in for a 10 minute ride. :heha: I am also fortunate as my dog has never had any accidents inside any vehicles (or houses for that matter). So, I don't really see what the big deal is, he's an average sized dog and I had no problems. I would imagine that dealing with a likewise average dog in a similar car that no one would have any problems. If the dog is used to riding on your lap, the dash, the passenger seat, the console or your feet, you need to be careful as there could be problems if the dog decides to move. I believe the back seat to be large enough for a single large breed dog. So, if you're worried about your seats, put a blanket down. I just happened to have one because the dog had crusted mud on his paws.

I used to put my 100lb German Shepherd in the back of my Lincoln LS (traded in the LS for the '11 GT/CS). When I folded the rear seats down he would be able to lay down with his rear end in the trunk and his head on the center console. When I used to drive my '89 5.0 all the time he insisted on getting in the front seat even though it's a hatch-back and he had a ton of room in the back. I usually take the SUV when the dogs have to go somewhere now.

Our malemute loves it. I throw in a couple pillows to bring the seats up to center level height, and cover all with a blanket.........Plum
Do you put the pillows on the floor in the front or on the back seat?

60lb Elkhound likes the front seat fine. Don't know if that qualifies as "large" though. I throw an old towel on the seat and we're good to go. Luckily, fur has only ever been my concern, and leather is easier to clean than cloth in that respect.
