Hi Sheila, the Guys above are correct, 1995 was the last year of the 5.0 in a Mustang. The Pistons changed in late 1992 from Forged to Hypers, a pretty foolproof way to tell is by the color of your oil pan. If its Silver you have Forged and if its Black you have Hypers.

 Tell your buddies they should stick with General Motors (Get a Mechanic) and Mopar (Move over people are racing) knowledge... I only have to say basically what the other folks above said ,1992 the last year for forged pistons... 95 was the last year for the 5.0 ,well in the Mustang at least... Hmmm wonder what we could have had if Ford kept the 302 in the Mustang in terms of horsepower and torque like Chevy with the 350 oh well a little off topic sorry. But I haven't heard about the different colored oil pans I might have to take a look at that...

GM Killled the 350 when they went to the LS1 as it is 347 Cubic Inches. I know what your saying though, Ford should have stuck with Pushrods!

Dude Shakerhood!!!! WOW the 350 is actually 347 cubic inches... What is it something like 60 cubic inches per liter... Rough estimate I cannot remember exacts... The car companies round up or down like Ford with their 351 Windsor actually 352 cubic inches yet Ford rounded it down to avoid confusion with the 352 FE motor do the math... Not trying to sound like a jerk just giving out info. GM and Chrysler do the same thing... But it really doesn't matter what GM does actually all of their vehicles well blow.... Camaro (Cheap American Made Automobile Rebuild Often) and Trans Am (Totally Ridiculous Automobile Rebuild Often)... And well they have things like the Cobalt or Lumina I am sorry actually it's a GTO... Couldn't tell at first sight:cool: ...

I was refering to the Engines being completely different, it was actually 350 Cubic Inches in the past and then was COMPLETELY redesigned in LS1 form, nothing but a gasket is compatable with the prior Engines. I still think you were trying to say you wished Ford stayed with a pushrod engine!

WOW the GM 350 has ALWAYS been 347 cubic inches... Although there was a redesign GM DID NOT change the bore and stroke of that motor... But actually I am glad Ford moved on to the mod motors they are really nice... Smooth and pulled insanely high in the RPM's great sound too! Just wonder what might have been you know if Ford sunk all the technology they have in the mod motors into the old pushrod types... Guess we will never know though.

Sorry to disappoint you, but that Engine design for the LS1 is COMPLETELY different from reverse coolant flow to displacement. If you look at this link it will clearly show you that the old 350 has a bore/stroke of 4.0 x 3.48. The new 346 which I thought was 347 has a bore/stroke combo of 3.90 x 3.622. Not the same at all!!! I had an 02 GT and it did pull up high, but I like the low end grunt of my 5.0 a little better. Drove a Mach 1 and like it as it had some low end grunt and it would rev too.

Bore x Bore x Stroke x .7854 x # of Cyl = ci of displacement

Newer LS1s = 3.9 x 3.9 x 3.622 x .7854 x 8 = 346.14

Older 350s = 4.001 x 4.001 x 3.48 x .7854 x 8 = 350.02

well just to add input you ask when was the last year of the 5.0 made most people covered that but its not really a 5.0 its more like a 4.9 since all these people do all these mathmatical stuff figure that one out. Ford just rounded it off cause 5.0 would sound cooler maybe thats why vanilla ice said it. rollin in my 5.0 rag top down so my hair can blow etc. Its a 4.9 302 cubic inches 305 cubic inches is a 5.0. who cares about liters anyway isnt this america? i thought they were suppose to convert everything all those years ago to the metric system but they still use the old one. Who really cares is a mustang with a motor. Next post ill see is about horepower numbers, horsepower aint $hit without torque remember that.
