i have a 1989 hatchback 3.3L LX with 8 speakers, read deck front door & the dash tweeters. i pulled all the speakers & radio out. Im lookin for speakers that can handle being played loud & are really clear, im not too concerned about the price but im 17 still in highschool so im not rolling in money i understand you gotta pay to play! i was lookin @ infinity speakers all the way around with a pioneer indash dvd p4200, but i was told by a few people infinitys will blow @ high volumes. i will eventually have an amp to the speakers. i also want to put the dvd player wehere the ac controls are so how i would i go about doin that? ill take all advice as far speaker brands & recommendations. oh im also goin to get subs 12's, throw in your advice here too, i was told a custom enclosures the way to go since i have a hatchback n the trunks kinda small.

so just let me know

Well, your wiring harness looks all good and intact, thats a start. That big gap is a double din sized whole and is perfect for a double din navigation or dvd player with a fixed screen. If you want a fold out screen that that would be a single din. Either a single din or double din aftermarket head unit will require a dash mount kit. Want some links so you can get a better idea?

You will also need an aftermarket wiring harness unless you go buying a stock head unit :p. Moving the ac controls below and using that upper smaller slot for a single din is a bad idea unless you feel like paying a shop a crap ton of cash to do all of that custom fab. They would have to creat a mount to install the ac controls below and a custom mount for a single din to fit the top. You can do it yourself if you just order a dash installing kit and wiring harness. I installed a double din gps unit and wiring harness in one hour in my gt.

As far as speakers, I will always suggest Rockford Fosgate: lows, mids, and highs for any job. They bump hard and hit those higher ohms perfectly. There not cheap if you want the best of the best like there component speakers, but a set of punch speakers and subs wont run you much but will blow the roof off your car!

Good luck with the installation, and all I can say is do it yourself. Its easy, fun, and a reward! Oh and you save $500+ bucks.

i've had infinity speakers before and they are good speakers for your highs....but right now i have some pioneers on door speakers and rear speakers and they sound loud and clear...i think there is alot of good speakers its just having a good head unit that comes with a good equalizer or you hook one up seperately for the speakers...good luck...

I recommend the kenwood kvt-696 its the receiver that I use. As for speakers I just replaced my infinity with hiphonics and they are much more crisp and sound much better(amped at 450watts and sound great)

I have Infinity's all the way around. They sound good, but I think a tweeter has blown already. Used for 6 months, no amp - just driven off the head unit (which is a JVC), and I don't even play my music that loud. It's still under warranty though.

That's the bad. On the good side, before that tweeter started rattling, the sound was very nice and clear. Got it off Crutchfield. Install was a breeze.

I had some infinities in the dash of my 92 notch and they sounded awesome but I blew a pair every couple of months. The rest of the car had polk audio 6x9s (I think) with a 600 watt kenwood amp pushing the 2 bazooka bass cannons in the trunk. I got everything on sale so I had maybe $500 bucks tied up in the whole system. The polk audios are still sounding great 11 years later but everything else has died. I'd still buy Infinities if they had the free replacment warranty mine had because they sound so clear. The bass cannons were awesome but they took up my whole trunk and that Kenwood 600 was the best amp ive ever had. If I was to get another system now i'd get some JL Audio 10s with another Kenwood.

I do not like the Infinitys anymore. I use alpine type r or s. With a notch I would make a box out of MDF and plexiglass or just buy one the should be cheap used. I run alpine 5.25 with the componenets in the dash. I just cut an old license plate to mount them where the 3" were. 6.5 in the rear. I have the pioneer double din in my truck and its boring as h$ll. I have an alpine flip up (single din) in my mustang and i love it. You can get a relocation panel for the hvac controls at American Muscle. You can see my setup if you click on my pics "camera". If you have a hatchback then I would just use one really good 12" sub and some sound deadener in the spare tire hole
