Okay, dumb question of the week (yes, I searched):

Is the SCT or Diablo a new chip or just an instrument that changes the stock chip in the car? This being said...if your friend had the tuner, couldn't you just borrow it and tune your car?

You cant do this, I forgot the reason, something about the previous car must be tuned back to stock before you could use his tuner. Im sure someone will answer better than I soon.

When you flash a car with the tuner (SCT / Diablo) it locks itself to that vehicle until you remove the tune and falsh back to stock. As for the tuner... It allows you to take a tune (Usually downloaded from the Net or from a Tuner guy / gal) upload it onto the tuner and flash the SCU on the car. When flashing for the first time, it automatically backs up the staock tune so that it can be reflashed to staock as needed.
A tuner reflashes the onboard computer settings. The PCM in the 05 doesn't accept a chip. That fact that the tuner won't support tuning multiple vehicles is at the very least the answer to your question. You wouldn't/shouldn't want to reflash you car and not have the stock tunes saved to reload if you encountered a problem with the re-tune?
