It'll hold three tunes plus your factory tune. However, they can be transferred to your computer. Use LiveWire to transfer the files back and forth between your computer and your handheld. An SCT tuner should work with any SCT tune from any vendor.
Tunes on an SCT device
Say I already have my stock tune saved and three tunes from company "A" on an SCT x3, can I add tunes from another source or must I first delete (somehow) one or more of the current tunes stored??

I believe the X3 holds 3 tunes plus stock and the X4 holds 5 plus stock, but I may be mistaken.
I'm fairly certain my x3 held ten custom tunes once I did an update to it. My x4 holds ten custom tunes as well. Your stock file won't take up any custom tune slot.

IIRC, I updated my firmware about a year or 18 months ago and I thought it only held 3 plus stock tune.

It's definitely more recent than 18 months. I first bought an x3 in October of '13 and it held three. An update sometime between then and March of '14 changed it to hold 10 tunes. I've now had two x4's since then and they both held 10 out of the box.
