Ok, so i just got my CAI and tune. That damn bug... I want to do a set of UDP's but Ive heard so many different opinions on them. I have the stock alt and motorcraft battery. I have a 1000 watt amp pushing two 12s and a police siren and PA system. Everything works great as of now, but I'm worried that if i was to slow the alt down, I would have charging issues. Issue or no big deal?

It’s a big deal. The Motorcraft 6G style alternator is a compromised design that tends to disintegrate internally when spun to fast. That is why Ford puts a large (for alternators) pulley on them stock. If they spin them any faster they run the risk of failure.

To compound the problem the stock alternator is rated at 135A and can barely put that out under the best conditions. And it certainly won’t at low RPM’s like you get while at idle and normal driving.

I have yet to test a stock alternator that performed anywhere near what it is supposed to.

The other 6G style 200A aftermarket alternators have the same problem. Yes they will put out 200A under the best conditions but at low speeds they don’t and heat soaked they don’t. They also suffer from the same problems with failing when spun very fast.

We just finished testing on some prototype 4G style alternators that we custom make for the Mustang. They put out a true 200A, even at idle. And you can’t overspin them.

If you run UDP’s with a stock alternator it is not a matter of if you will have charging problems, but when.
